Greater London Enterprise Awards 2026

Greater London Enterprise Awards 2026/ 18 Best Luxury Bedding Retailer 2026 Brent Cooper started in the luxury bed trade in 1979. More than four decades into his journey, his knowledge is vast and his experience is unrivalled, but the principle that guides him is the same as it always was: a great bed is about how it feels and how you sleep, not how it looks in a brochure. Today, Brent and his team run Westend Bed Company in East Sheen, with this luxury retailer stocking luxury brands like Marshall & Stewart and Westend, both of which Brent himself started. Following its recognition in our Greater London Enterprise Awards, we take a closer look at this retailer. For seven years, Brent Cooper ran the UK operation for Hästens, one of the world’s most renowned luxury bed manufacturers. During his time at the helm, Brent’s showroom in London became the brand’s best performing store in the world, out of 194 globally. For three years in a row, he also won its international sales competition, and he was the first person ever to sell the Hästens Vividus when it launched in 2006. Things changed when Hästens entered Harrods, which undermined the independent sellers who had built the brand over the years. Brent walked away, pouring all of his knowledge and expertise into creating his own line. Beds and bedding with better materials, more handwork, no middleman, and no brand text. The result was Marshall & Stewart, which stands alongside Hästens, Vispring, and Savoir in the conversation for the world’s best beds. Marshall & Stewart delivers the same quality as its competitors, with its beds being handmade in England using only the finest materials, at much less than the £250,000 or more they might charge. The premium nature of these beds can be seen through the fact that, when Marshall & Stewart displayed its beds alongside Hästens in the same showroom, eight of ten customers picked the former based on feel alone. This includes buyers from Sweden who had visited specifically for Hästens, which is a Swedish brand. At the heart of Marshall & Stewart’s difference is the Diamond Collection, which comprises six quality beds each designed to offer a different balance of support and softness. It is not a quality ladder, and the cheapest bed in the collection is in no way inferior. It is simply a different feel for a different sleeper. Every bed in this group, from the Hortensia to the Koh-I-Noor, is a masterpiece, and Brent could not be more proud of what he built. The same goes for the award-winning bedding Westend Bed Company stocks, which also stems from the Marshall & Stewart collection. Its bed linen is woven by Martinelli Ginetto, one of Europe’s finest mills for cotton and linen, and tailored by the acclaimed Italian atelier Lara. It is thanks to this that the luxury bedding offered by the company is an exact fit – never an approximation. This same focus on quality extends across Brent’s bedding offerings, including pillows and duvets manufactured with the same exacting standards. “People often overlook it, but linen is the most tactile part of the bed. You don’t feel the springs, you don’t feel the horsehair, but you feel the sheet every single night.” Despite having cornered the high-end bed market with Marshall & Stewart, something still troubled Brent. The benefits of natural materials (including better durability and improved temperature regulation) remained available only to those who could afford £18,000+ on a bed. Hypnos, a heritage brand whose beds are also stocked at the Westend Bed Company, had once offered cheaper natural ranges, but these were discontinued. Those who wanted natural but could not justify a Marshall & Stewart were lost. So, again leveraging his expertise, Brent filled the gap in the market himself with Westend Beds. Exclusive to the Westend Bed Company, the brand offers three mattresses built from the ground up right at home in the UK, all according to the specifications most brands reserve for their very top ranges. Brent personally specified all of these beds himself, and they – like everything across both this brand and Marshall & Stewart – are made to his standards. Having spent more than a decade building trust, relationships, and a reputation for unrivalled quality, Westend Bed Company has unlocked a better night’s sleep for countless in East Sheen and across South West London, thanks to its mattresses and bedding at all price points. As a result, we are delighted to recognise the Westend Bed Company as the Best Luxury Bedding Retailer 2026 in this edition of our Greater London Enterprise Awards.
