SME News - Managing Director of the Year Awards 2024/ 14 Starting his career as an apprentice he worked his way up the ladder developing his experience, technical skills and leadership style to get to where he is today. From an Electrical Foreman, Supervisor, Project Engineer, Project Manager, Operations Manager, Operations Director, Regional Director and finally, Managing Director, he really has done it all. Over the years he has helped secure flagship projects, resulting in considerable profit for the North, including Drax Power Station, Hitachi Rail, Darlington Education Village, Life and Mind Building, AESC Gigafactory and SeAH Monopile to name a few. He also created partnerships with long-term customers through Education, MOJ and Healthcare frameworks, many of which the business still works with today. Championing the use of offsite manufacturing, Steve was a key player in the creation of SES’ original offsite factory Prism, maximising the benefits across the business. Steve transitioned into the Managing Director Role during a turbulent time of lockdown’s, furloughs and health fears. He took on the challenge, working around the clock to support the business, staff and supply chain, prioritising health & safety and wellbeing. For Steve, it’s not just about the projects, it’s about the people. He is passionate about mentoring his team and encouraging their development and is an advocate for supporting new talent into the industry. Steve’s impact on those he has worked with over his impressive career is undeniable.
