Midlands Enterprise Awards 2023

30 | SME News Midlands Enterprise Awards 2023 Training, by its nature, cannot simply cover the events that should happen. It has to cover the reality of what those who are being trained might face. For those in the health and social care sector, training is particularly difficult as people face the challenges not just of healthcare, but of people in general. It’s not enough to know what should technically happen, because various situations might alter that expectation. Howe2 Training has made its name in providing expert knowledge that has revolutionised how people work. Led by Mark Howe-Senior, the company offers ‘real life training’, meaning that all trainers have extensive experiences (personal and professional) for the courses they deliver. This expertise goes all the way through the company, with some of the most successful courses and consultancies being provided by Mark himself, who has been diagnosed with autism and ADHD. This means that Mark’s approach is one which is incredibly real, as it draws on his own real life experiences. Mark’s success is an example of how autism can present a number of myths that are not easily overwritten. For example, many would see autism as a barrier to success but Mark’s life very much goes against this. By being open about how he processes information, he has been able to live a life that makes a massive difference both to those who work in the healthcare sector and those who depend upon it. For him, Howe2 is a showcase of what can be achieved with awareness and understanding – two qualities that underpin training from the company. Working alongside both children’s and adult services, every course from Howe2 is designed to match the needs of relevant qualification frameworks and regulatory bodies standards/requirements (both children’s and adult services) that are UK wide. The team’s competency assessment frameworks and training includes medication, manual handling, and infection prevention and control, to name but a few. For those unsure of where to start, Mark and the Howe2 team offer full training needs analysis, which has been heavily developed over the last 20 years and is available regardless of the size of an organisation. While Howe2 has specialised in courses that range from mandatory first aid and food safety courses, the team offer specialist training in topics such as Parkinson’s disease and neurodiversity. “There has been a move for more organisations to be neurodiverse aware and being able to implement reasonable adjustments,” Mark tells us. “This has included local authorities. Another USP is that of the "personal" touch with the customers. The training may have finished but the relationship Training in health and social care must be of the highest quality, and it must also attend to the unique needs of individuals. The Director and Owner of Howe2 Training & Consultancy Ltd (Howe2), Mark Howe-Senior, can speak from a position of experience on this topic, with diagnoses of autism and ADHD, along with three other mental health conditions, giving him a useful perspective.
