What’s more important to life – and keeping businesses operating - than water? It’s a factor not considered often, though we can all make more of what’s used and reduce areas where water’s wasted. Water Plus shows how. Multi award-winning business water retailer Water Plus, based in Staffordshire, takes care of vital services such as leak detection, repairs, additional water tracking in a year – and providing businesses with account management, meter reading and billing for water and wastewater services. Best Business Water Retailer 2023 - West Midlands & SME Environmental Excellence Award 2023 With an aim to be the number one water retailer of choice, both for its customers, staff and suppliers, Water Plus is a business changing the way water is being used, across England and Scotland. It helps SMEs, large industrial locations, multi-sites and manufacturers with its range of water and wastewater services – and a team with years of experience with business water, after it launched in April 2017. It’s helped businesses save water and save money and is taking action around sustainability and reducing environmental impacts, by raising awareness, so both business and public sector customers can increase efficiency and cut water waste – which can also reduce energy usage. Water Plus says the first step is to know what amounts of water you’re using and where. Regularly noting down and providing meter readings during a year, which can be done quickly online with Water Plus, means you only pay for the water you’re using at your business. It also means you can spot savings and react early to any water issues, like leaks on-site. Being more alert around water use in a year and noting down meter readings more often, has saved nearly 27% of businesses water, in 2023, helping spot leaks at their building - with 40% of the 78 SMEs, who responded to the survey, agreeing it’s helped them with budgeting, from tracking water use more closely. ** The black digits on water meters are the ones to note down, with the advice to only access the water meter if it’s safe to. Providing reads during a year reduces bills based on estimated use. Businesses can also add technology to a water meter to track use more often online – and Water Plus can provide this kit, with organisations saying it’s helping with efficiencies – and one company recently saying it’s saving them energy in 2023 too. Water efficiency doesn’t have to be expensive, or complicated. Water Plus recommends small changes, like pipe flow restrictors and low-cost push taps and aerators, which can cut flow rates by 16 litres a minute, so you’re using less water. Low-cost aerators can reduce showers to 6 litres a minute – making a big difference for workplaces, gyms, spas and leisure facilities. They’re a fantastic energy saving aid too, as less hot water is used overall. Water Plus has helped customers, in a range of sectors, reduce their running costs in 2023 through additional water saving kit, including a rugby club, a catering company and a hotel – all in the Midlands. Using less water, and reducing any water waste, particularly hot water, translates into a reduction in a site’s carbon emissions, benefitting not just their bank balance but the planet’s environment too. There are carbon emissions for all water supplied to buildings, along with carbon emissions linked to the water taken away down sinks, or from flushing toilets. Whether you have a large business or a single site, using controllers for flush timings in areas with toilets and changing facilities, along with educating staff on how to reduce areas of water waste, should be considered, say Water Plus. As its main office is located in Stoke-on-Trent, it allows easy access for Water Plus colleagues working all across the country and has helped attract many talented individuals to its team. As a member of the Staffordshire Business and Environment Network (Sben) and the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, Water Plus has an active role highlighting water saving information and approaches to organisations in the Midlands - and further afield. It’s also part of the Staffordshire Careers Hub and Careers Enterprise Programme, welcoming regular visits from school pupils, who receive advice and tips for future career considerations – along with tips to save water at home and in other buildings too. Managing Director of SME and Small Corporates, Jamie Gibson, pictured on the left, encourages all businesses, including SMEs like hairdressers, shops, charities, and gyms, to look more at how water is being managed as this can add up to helping the bottom line. Jamie’s keen to develop people at work, helping them gain new skills, with more than 150 with national qualifications in customer service in 2023, as part of the Water Plus approach to deliver great customer experiences. Jamie encourages all businesses to explore their water more in 2023 – to unlock more potential in their business and says the multi award-winning Water Plus team can help their journey towards efficiency goals and sustainability aims in a net zero world.
