26 | Northern Enterprise Awards 2022 Nov22100 Best Nationwide Rope Access Training Provider 2022 Rope Access Man Power UK Ltd (RAMP) is a registered IRATA Member and qualified Rope Access Training Provider. We find out more about the company, how it started, and what it has to offer following it gaining recognition in the Northern Enterprise Awards 2022. Based in Middlesbrough, Rope Access Man Power aims to help all levels of rope access technicians to get the training they need in order to find employment through contract work across the globe. With a rope access training centre and a rope access operations team, RAMP carries out almost any work at height and its dedicated team consists of professionally trained and IRATA certified technicians with a wide variety of skills. “We are well known for providing high quality and reliable work on site,” explains Michael O’Gara the company’s Director. “As we only work with talented technicians and have the equipment and expertise necessary, backed up with first class service and support from the admin team, no job is too big or small for us!” It all began when Michael O’Gara and Lee Thompson had an idea to set up a rope access recruitment company… whilst they were working on a wind turbine 25 metres above the German North Sea! Noticing a gap in the market for the recruitment of rope access technicians, the duo decided to set up on their own, and RAMP was finally born in 2017. Both Lee and Michael have extensive experience within the rope access industry across the globe and boast an impressive portfolio. The company has moved away from recruitment and now focuses on training and operations. RAMP runs regular courses every week and continues to provide delegates with career advice as well as helping them look for work after they have completed their rope access course. The range of courses available at RAMP include: • Rope Access Taster days – These are free and aimed at delegates that haven’t been on the ropes before. It gives them a chance to have a look around the training centre and get a feel of the ropes before booking on any further training courses. • Working at Height Module 2 –This is a oneday course. • Rope Access – This course includes working at height module 2 certification. It is a five-day training course and consists of four training days and an assessment day. After delegates have completed the course with RAMP, they are also entitled to free refresher days to ensure their skills are kept up-to-date. • Rope Access Refresher days - This is aimed at delegates that haven’t been on the ropes for six months or delegates that would like to practice what they have learned during the course. • Medium Risk Confined Space Training Courses with Escape Breathing Apparatus - This is a oneday course. RAMP also offers accommodation in a house consisting of five double bedrooms ranging in price from £25 to £45 per night. The lower rate rooms have shared bathroom facilities, whilst the ensuite room is set to the higher rate. There is free onsite parking, wi-fi and Sky Sports included with the costs. Offering these courses differentiates RAMP from others in the industry, but it is the ongoing support that delegates receive after their initial training which really distinguishes the company from its competitors. The company also has fantastic rope access training pass rates with an average annual pass rate of 95%. The dedicated team at RAMP appreciates that sometimes those that are new to rope access, including young people and career changers, know very little about the industry and that’s why the firm ensures staff take the extra time to give them advice, discuss possible routes they could take to get where they want to be, and share details of potential employers with them once they have passed the course. “We go above and beyond to help delegates secure work and utilise all of our contacts to make sure this happens as soon as possible after completion of the rope access course,” the Office Manager, Shabana elaborates. “Our delegates are our priority and as much as we would like to help everyone who joins the industry, we will always give those that have trained with us priority. We will never cut a delegate off on completion of the course – Our directors and instructors have vast knowledge of the industry and are always happy to help where they can.” A fun, supportive, and customer-focused environment is what delegates can find on signing up with RAMP, with staff always willing to go the extra mile to ensure complete customer satisfaction each and every time. Despite this light-hearted internal culture, safety is also of the utmost importance and RAMP goes above and beyond to ensure training and work is completed to the highest standard and in a safe manner. In 2019, after just two years of operation, RAMP has grown enough to require new premises. Not only did the firm move to a larger location, but it also benefited from installing a state-of-the-art £30,000 training facility and was also awarded the highly commended IRATA Membership. Over the last 12 months, other important milestones have been achieved by RAMP and its team, including the company successfully passing the three-year IRATA Full Member Operator and Trainer recertification audit with no non-conformities, and also successfully passing the three-year ISO recertification audit (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001) with no nonconformities. Plus, Accounts Manager, Emma O’Gara, was promoted to the position of Director within the firm. More recently, the dedicated team at RAMP were recognised for their diligence and hard work by being bestowed with the prestigious accolade of Best Nationwide Rope Access Training Provider 2022 in the SME News Northern Enterprise Awards. SME News looks far and wide to find businesses who are going above and beyond in their industries.
