Northern Enterprise Awards 2022

89 | Northern Enterprise Awards 2022 a recent addition of two more employees. Now a team of four, the company plans to enhance their services. The additional resources, John explains, will allow them to dedicate more time into giving loved ones the best possible send off. And that’s really all that matters at the end of the day. The pillars of Delanoy’s success are apparent. With John and Julie at the centre, its future can only be one of continued growth and compassionate service. There’s no better choice By all considerations, Delanoy Funeral Services (Delanoy) has gone from strength to strength over the last couple of years. With several well-deserved accolades already under their belt, the team added another in this year’s edition of the Northern Enterprise Awards. SME News took a closer look at Delanoy’s impressive success. The funeral industry hasn’t changed much in the last century or so, it must be said. Humans, after all, still grieve in the same way, and our traditions – at least in the UK – have remained largely unchanged, bar perhaps an incorporation of more secular funerals in recent decades. From the outset, Delanoy Funeral Services wanted to be different, to do things differently than many in the industry. This was its founding principle, and it has certainly succeeded in being fundamentally different than many of their peers. Owners John Delanoy and Julie Stout believe that funerals shouldn’t be grim affairs, but rather a celebration of the life of the person departed. “No one likes funerals, but done in the right way, they can be beautiful and personal, and a tribute to the life lived,” Julie added. A comment must be made of the greater landscape wherein Delanoy was established. Consider the world some two years ago, and the very omnipresent air of death and uncertainty. It was a time that many in the funeral industry struggled with – changing attitudes, new regulations and rules to adapt to. It is a potent testament to Delanoy’s services and compassion that it has grown during that time, a time when many longer established funeral services stumbled. Much of this, naturally, lies at the feet of Julie and John, in understanding that the pandemic and the industry in general brought about a need for a dramatic paradigm shift. Together, they have managed to reinvigorate an industry – at least, for now, within the region of County Durham – and make it more humancentric and compassionate. A funeral, as Julie rightly says, shouldn’t always be sad moments of reflection and loss, but a joyous occasion of a life well lived, and lives touched. It’s no surprise then that the year ahead marks a period of organic growth for Delanoy, following Best Family-Run Funeral Director Services - County Durham Oct22256 for those that want to remember their loved ones, and the joy they brought to the people present.
