Northern Enterprise Awards 2024

Across the healthcare industry, many smaller, independently run domiciliary providers are being acquired by larger corporations. This increasing trend is eroding the uniqueness and the personal touch that the industry is known for, as clients receive more and more one-size-fits-all services. One company fighting this change is Sentinel Homecare, a domiciliary care provider known for its client-centric approaches and passion for people. As the company is named in the Northern Enterprise Awards 2024, we find out more from Managing Director, Rayhana Begum. Home Care Company of the Year 2024 – West Yorkshire Based in Bradford, Sentinel Homecare has provided dedicated domiciliary care, including palliative and reablement care, to its community for two decades. Since 2004, the company’s aim has been to provide the highest quality care to its clientele, and ongoing support to all staff. Ensuring that it listens to its client’s every need, the homecare provider is guided by its philosophy of promoting the independence of an individual by providing choice fulfilment and dignity across all of its services. Sentinel Homecare is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals with developmental or physical disabilities by alleviating barriers to their independence and helping them reach their full potential. The company’s comprehensive suite of services includes aiding with equipment and procedures, medication reminders and administration, personal hygiene management, ambulation and transfers, errands services, housekeeping and laundry, meal planning and preparation, companionship and socialisation, and 24-hour live on-call support. With a management team possessing more than four decades of experience between them, Sentinel Homecare has established a reputation for outstanding services throughout the region, making it an integral component of its community. “We have strong links to local organisations, including health and social care, and have put a plan in place to alleviate loneliness in the Bradford community,” Rayhana tells us. “The local authority does not fund this, so we have provided funding to clients who have no recourse to going out in the community, or clients who may suffer from isolation.” What’s more, Rayhana tells us that Sentinel Homecare also works with the local schools in Bradford to provide work experience placements. This initiative shows young people the route to successful careers within health and social care and teaches them to show compassion when working with people with different needs. By opening up the industry to the younger generation within its community, Sentinel Homecare is significantly contributing towards a successful and sustainable future for health and social care. Having operated within the industry for 20 years, Sentinel Homecare has seen many advantages to being situated within the North. “The main benefit is the great population of the Yorkshire people,” says Rayhana. “As part of our regulatory requirements, we always ensure a person-centred approach to a client’s needs. Every individual is different and unique, and we draw care plans tailored to each individual need. Yorkshire people are unique to the rest of the UK; we ensure that we highlight this and cater our services accordingly.” As a part of its commitment to client-centric care, Sentinel Homecare maintains an exceptional, robust team of professionals. The company supports its team through essential wellbeing programmes and arrange regular feedback and surveys in order to temperature check how they are managing in their role. Sentinel Homecare is a Mindful Employer Charter signatory and provides each employee with the support they need, when they need it. By ensuring that its entire workforce feels happy, healthy, and supported, the company ensures that each client gets the very best care possible. Sentinel Homecare’s internal culture its driven by its cultural values of safety, integrity, quality, dignity and respect, empowerment, quality, diversity, social responsibility, and continuous improvement. These values underpin everything that the company does and ensures that the team operates in alignment with its mission at all times. By remaining clientcentric, community-focused, and dedicated to quality, Sentinel Homecare upholds its values every day, and further reinstates its reputation as the Home Care Company of the Year 2024 – West Yorkshire. Since its establishment in 2004, Sentinel Homecare has provided top-tier care services, served as a cornerstone of its community, and broadened access to the health and social care industry for future generations. Following its significant success in the Northern Enterprise Awards, we ask Rayhana what is next for Sentinel Homecare. “We want to focus on Mental Health clients more in 2025, which includes providing care to young people with mental health struggles as we strive to become a niche leader in the field,” she says. “We will also keep providing the services we have built and continue to learn and grow.” Contact: Rayhana Begum Company: Sentinel Homecare Limited Web Address: www.sentinel-homecare.co.uk Nov24177
