97 | Q1 2021 Sep20087 Best in a Dog Training School Lockdown has seen more and more people taking on puppies and dogs, to help with mental health and wellbeing. However, a dog is not just for Covid! Denise Hubbard, owner of Waggtails School of Dog Training, tells us more about the correct steps to ensure a dog’s welfare is best met. Waggtails is a dog training school which provides a stimulating environment for puppies and dogs alike. With its modern methods, comprising of a kind, effective reward-based programme, and training using lure and reward techniques, enrolling with Waggtails is a great way to learn and teach puppies to love the training they are given. With Waggtails, both owners and their puppies are able to develop the necessary social skills and controls which are vital for approaching everyday encounters in the community today. “I believe that good early education is of value and will provide a sound foundation for learning for life,” says Head Trainer, Denise Hubbard, who established the company in 2000. Waggtails sees clients of all ages who just want to do the best for their puppy or dog to meet its needs and ensure its happiness. The firm’s unique selling point is that it provides an education appropriate to the particular needs of each and every dog or puppy. “Waggtails contributes to the physical growth of a happy, well-balanced puppy, with owners equally happy to see their puppies growing into a sociable little sole,” highlights Denise. Having the right knowledge, understanding and the right qualifications is key in order to give Waggtails customers the correct approach to help with their puppy’s, or dog’s, problems and this has been the core value since the firm was first incepted nearly 21 years ago. Today, Waggtails has a listed status with The Kennel Club and provides training for the Puppy Assessment Award, through to Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. Waggtails also offers Gundog Classes for pet gundog breeds or, if clients want to take it little more seriously, it also offers training for The Kennel Club Working Test. Denise is always on the look-out for potential new helpers and trainers, and many of these come from clients that Denise has taught over the years, and who have subsequently progressed on to other Waggtails classes. “Clients who come to my Waggtails very rarely leave,” she laughs, “so I get to know them very well! And the talent and skills they can bring to Waggtails is so beneficial.” Sadly, the Covid-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on Waggtails’ business however Denise has adapted her business model and embraced technology in order to continue her good work and training programmes. This, in turn, has also helped improve her client’s mental wellbeing. “To help owners l now offer online training and send training sheets to back my training up. This works well as a stopgap for the time being! As at least they have me to talk to and to ask questions, also for any problems they are experiencing at any one time.” Regarding the future, Denise is very much looking ford to the Covid-19 restrictions being lifted and for business to return to as normal a state as possible. She plans to continue to ensure Waggtails is available to clients in whatever means necessary, be it in person or online, and to continue to give 100% of her time and energy to her clientele and their four- legged companions and forever friends. “I will carry on offering support to help people them with their puppy’s or dog’s worst nightmares, to a place where humans, dogs and puppies can all live happily and peacefully together in harmony!” Come and have Fun at Waggtails Training School where No Puppy or Dog wants to leave!!
