Q3 2021
Q3 2021 | 29 options were staying at home with no support, or being confined in specially-designed long-stay hospitals. These hospitals had strict routines and people were not considered individuals, with their rights as citizens being ignored. Following World War II, a number of groups throughout the country came together to lobby the government to try and improve facilities for people who were then being labelled as ‘mentally handicapped’. And a much larger group was formed – the Royal Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults, now known as MENCAP. Now, Mayfield Trust has helped 10,000+ people to live their lives to the full, with volunteer, Claire Pilcher saying, “The work that the Mayfield Trust carries out is fantastic and really heart- warming and so selfless”. The charity continues to operate efficiently to ensure the long-term financial stability and stability of all services, and it reserves costs by having a board of trustees who work voluntarily to steer its mission and guarantee good governance.
