SME News Q3 2023 | 50 People are at the heart of any and every business, but it’s no easy task to ensure high standards are maintained at all times. Through the use of StaffSavvy, industries across the UK have been transformed to deliver more efficient business operations. Recognised for its success in the IT Awards 2023, we caught up with Andrew Treadwell of StaffSavvy to explore how the company did it. Since StaffSavvy’s establishment, its team have made it their mission to manage people in the workplace better. As organisations grow, so too must their capacity to deal with people. Managing this change is vital, but often overlooked. Needless to say, the work of the StaffSavvy team has helped to ensure that, whether it’s a team of 50 or 5,000, your workers are happy and satisfied in everything that they do. The platform has been built not on theoretical models, but on practical experience. It is, therefore, an invaluable tool when it comes to exploring how to handle recruitment management, HR tools, document management, learning management, online training, shift planning, compliance tools, timesheets, communication tools, and so much more. When designing the platform for use, the team took great pains to ensure that it would always make the day easier, instead of adding unwanted levels of bureaucracy. The growth of StaffSavvy over the years has matched the continual expansion of some of its clients. It is always looking to find new ways of improving compliance, which leads to better and more effective business decisions. When we asked Andrew Treadwell about how StaffSavvy does this, he was keen to explain. “The system ensures that each staff member will receive notifications about upcoming tasks and will, in some cases, be stopped from clocking in until their urgent tasks are taken care of,” he tells us. “We believe these features stand out because by increasing the responsibility of users, you then increase engagement, by forcing people to take responsibility for their role within the company.” Such a proactive approach to business means that there is nowhere to hide with StaffSavvy around. As mentioned before, the aim is not to add bureaucracy, but to make the system work for its users with automatic systems that reduce admin time. “Managers are able to approve and set automated rules rather than doing more data entry,” Andrew explains. We can almost hear the delight of managers up and down the country! Even this step has not been enough for the StaffSavvy team, however.” He continues, “We also link different features together that can often be separated into different systems into one, so that they are all connected and can talk to each other. The timesheets can be based on what the rota is saying. What this means is that things are therefore a lot more streamlined and you can go properly paperless.” In any successful business, finding ways of streamlining is vital. The principles that StaffSavvy preaches to clients, therefore, are principles followed by the team at home. StaffSavvy is fully remote, and focuses on looking for people who have a self-motivated and problem-solving mindset. “As StaffSavvy is an expanding and growing company, our team is involved in that development process in many different ways as we are constantly looking for ways to make our system even more tailored to our clients,” Andrew tells us. Putting people who are directly with clients at the heart of how the company works has proven to be an invaluable decision. Of course, working remotely can create a divide from the office team. Providing strong support, therefore, is one of the key decisions taken by the team. “We always aim to be to each other and our clients: supportive, open, approachable, and have a can-do attitude. We keep this ethos alive within the company by focusing on building team bonds, leaning on each other if we need help and in turn being open and available as we can to help one another. We also have a daily meeting every morning to go over our days as a way of keeping each other up to date, reflecting on our progress throughout the week and also of checking in on each other.” The decision to go remote as a business was not one taken lightly. It brought with it numerous challenges, such as moving away from training which could be completed in person. “If we were presenting to a room but people weren’t able to try out the system for themselves until after the training sessions, it meant issues might not be discovered until later,” Andrew tells us. “Moving to fully remote training was the way forward. We found that given the digital nature of the system it made more sense; it was easier to see what was going on and each staff member could work through tasks on their own screens.” The same challenges applied in no small part to clients too, with many who might potentially struggle without a strong level of support. “We focused on making sure our clients felt just as reassured in our calls online as they did in person,” Andrew says with a smile. “We had live calls with the training team, dedicated to training our clients in easily digestible chunks with homework. This was to enhance learning and to make sure that nothing was too overwhelming.” This level of care and attention ensured that the transition to online working was achieved with the minimum of fuss. Working with StaffSavvy, as they use webcams and are able to observe how you’re working and what you’re doing, means it really does feel like your support network are in the room with you! Looking ahead, it’s clear that the future is bright indeed for this talented team. Not content with their current success, they are always looking into bold new opportunities for the future that could enhance the operations of their clients. Any updates are, in turn, guided by the needs that their clients see. The key part of achieving this growth, therefore, is not just Staff Management Platform Developer of the Year 2023
