SME News Q3 2024/ 28 Best Traditional Greek Street Food Kitchen 2024 Traditional cuisine often reflects the rich history and culture of a nation, influenced by ancient and modern ways of living combined into a true representation. Authentic Greek cuisine can be hard to find in the UK, at least until Taka Taka Mam entered the scene. Based in Bury, Taka Taka Mam serves authentic Greek street food from an award-winning mobile kitchen. Below, we speak with Co-Founder Rafail Konstantinidis to learn more. Taka Taka Mam was established in 2021, the result of eight years of dissatisfaction and a chance encounter. Co-Founder Rafail Konstantinidis had moved to the UK eight years previous from Greece, and despite his best efforts, had struggled to find quality street food that exactly replicated that authentic Greek taste that he had been desperately searching for. Giving up, Rafail decided that he would deliver to Manchester what he could not find himself. Rafail would open his own mobile kitchen and show Manchester just how Greek street food should taste. Following a chance encounter with Lee Watkins, the two struck up a friendship. This friendship rapidly evolved into a business partnership, culminating in Taka Taka Mam’s establishment in June 2021. Together, Rafail and Lee opened Taka Taka Mam, a mobile kitchen in which they serve up mouth-watering Greek delicacies across the region, opening Manchester’s eyes to the appetising flavours of traditional Greek cuisine. “Our mobile kitchen is more than just a place to grab lunch,” says Lee, “it’s where you can try traditional Greek souvlaki and gyros created by Greek chefs using authentic ingredients.” Taka Taka Mam offers its clients a faithful experience that truly highlights the flavoursome dishes Greece has to offer, including classic dishes such as souvlaki, moussaka, spanakopita, and gyros.
