to the team, with the knowledge that each child who contacts the Trust is facing a hugely difficult and often isolating time. For the team at The Osborne Trust, it is incredibly heartbreaking to know that there are more children across the UK in need of the organisation but unfortunately, it can only cater to as many as funding will allow. Balancing the desire to say yes to every request it receives, when considering the reality of its capacity, is an ongoing challenge for the Trust. It is this very feeling that drives each member of The Osborne Trust to continually fundraise and advocate for increased awareness and support. Whilst challenging, this exceptional field of work is also remarkably worthwhile – with Emma citing the direct impact The Osborne Trust has on children and their families as the most rewarding aspect of their work. “When we receive messages from parents telling us that their children have smiled for the first time in weeks thanks to our support packs, or when a child tells us that they felt “normal” again for a day – these moments remind us exactly why we do what we do,” Emma shared. “It’s incredibly powerful to know that the Trust is helping to create cherished memories and emotional breathing space for the children and young people we support.” This passion has driven The Osborne Trust to elevated success, regardless of the challenges that come its way. In the decade since its inception, the Trust has supported more than 4,500 children and young people across the UK and Northern Ireland and aided over 2,200 families with children affected by parental cancer. In doing so, it has provided over 1,492 Ozzy the Elephant teddies to these children and has funded more than 1,368 local respite activities. Now supporting eight times the number of children since its first year of operation, The Osborne Trust has seen significant achievement in eleven years – a testament to the organisation’s unrelenting dedication and commitment. “Today, The Osborne Trust continues to expand its reach, helping more families across the UK while staying true to its founding belief: Every child deserves understanding, support, and moments of joy – even in the face of cancer.” Looking ahead, the future is bright for The Osborne Trust, as the organisation continues to enhance and expand its services to better support children and young people in navigating the difficult terrain of parental cancer. At present, Emma shared with us that the organisation is currently working on a separate branch of the Trust that will equip it to better support the families and children of parents living with a treatable but incurable diagnosis. Alongside this, The Osborne Trust has a number of fundraising initiatives in the pipeline to aid its mission. As The Osborne Trust celebrates 11 years of providing support to children during their parent’s cancer, the community can look forward to Afternoon Tea in September and a Boogie Bingo in November, followed by the Trust’s famous 12 Days of Christmas fundraiser, which we learned is becoming more and more popular with each year.
