Penny believes in leading by example and that she is therefore just as accountable as anyone else. “I respect the team and earn their respect in return, never taking anyone for granted and verbalising appreciation. I believe in a two-way street in all relationships within the business and will only promise what or if I/we can deliver.” She remains available to and open with the team, asking for their input when making decisions that impact them or their respective departments and processes, and prioritising their wellbeing through the business’ unique Expected Levels of Performance/Company Reward Scheme. “Humility has been my biggest lesson, both in general life and in the workplace. Complacency is a close second. Remain humble, treat people with respect, never take anything for granted, and continue to work, review, and adapt to remain relevant and be the best version of yourself.” In terms of managing the business’ operations, Penny told us about how she has taken the time to ensure solid foundations before committing to growth, ensuring customers will receive the consistent high standard of service they deserve. Within this, the whole team are involved in an annual internal review, where the business establishes its focus for the year ahead and structures a plan to align with the desired outcome. This begins with an honest look at what the business is doing well, what it is failing at, and what it would like to improve. The team then move onto identifying where they are, where they want to be, and how they will get there, all of which is incorporated into a 90-day plan. As the year goes on and focus sharpens, the business plan is revised, and the team are kept informed of progress. Ultimately, it’s easy to see how Penny Moore has come to achieve not one but two award titles: Most Outstanding Refrigeration Industry MD 2026 and Female-Owned Business of the Year 2026. She has come a long way at the company since she started back in 2005, and as she’s risen through the ranks, her passion and dedication toward the company and team’s success have always shone through. She continues to have the belief that the company can do better and she does whatever it takes to make it a reality. Regarding her awards success, Penny commented, “I would just like to say thank you. I had the broadest of smiles on my face when I received the email notifying me of the award, and the team were genuinely happy for me, giving me a round of applause when I shared the news with them over morning coffee. I would also like to recognise and thank the team because, although it might be my name on the award, none of what we do would be possible without them.” Now, all that’s left to ask is what the future looks like for Atlantic Refrigeration. “I’m excited to share our Four Growth & Compliance Pillars,” Penny shared, “which are: Compliance-Led Planned Maintenance, Spares Conversion Improvement, Cruise Customer Development, and Dry Dock Support. “By focusing on these four pillars, we will: provide our customers with improved planned maintenance services, based around compliance, ensuring they are audit ready; ensure we remain competitive with our spare’s quotations, providing customer savings; develop the services provided to the cruise industry, so our customers receive an enhanced service from us across departments; and support cruise vessels during refit periods. Our business plan is structured around these four pillars, introducing relevant KPIs to track our progress and adapt as we progress over the next two years.” If you would like to learn more about Atlantic Refrigeration, visit the company website.
