“More than a bar, SOBR is a movement towards mindful drinking and better nights off.” Based in Aberdeen, SOBR is Scotland’s first dedicated alcohol-free venue, created especially for those who love the energy of a great night out without the hangover that follows. Since its inception in just 2025, the venue has been on a mission to redefine what it means to socialise by offering non-drinkers a space where genuine connection, conversation, and creativity come first. The story of SOBR began when its Founder reached a pivotal turning point in her life. The years Kate Kenyon had spent on the dance floor were now taking their toll on her body, and she faced the reality of a second kidney transplant failure. Transforming a potentially life-changing setback into a catalyst for evolution, Kate decided to quit drinking alcohol. Everything changed; choosing to stop drinking alcohol brought a new sense of clarity, energy, and a more intentional way of living to Kate’s life. Soon after, Kate’s best friend began her own sobriety journey, and the short break became a permanent shift for the pair. Now on this journey together, they quickly realised that while there were many places to drink, there was nowhere that made sober drinking feel just as fun, connected, and social. SOBR was born from those shared experiences in October 2025, designed to provide people with the space Kate felt was missing at the beginning of her own sober journey. The bar welcomes individuals from all walks of life, whether a drinker is cutting back, cutting out, or simply curious. Its menu features a curated selection of premium alcohol-free wines, beers, cocktails, ciders, and spirits, all carefully crafted to deliver full-bodied flavour without the nasty side effects. While there are a number of alcohol-free bars dotted around England – including venues in London, Nottingham, Coventry, and Derby – SOBR launched as the first of its kind in Scotland. What’s more, many of the UK’s best-regarded “sober” options are actually traditional bars and venues that simply offer an alcohol-free section of their menu. SOBR, on the other hand, is 100% alcohol-free, a genuine first-mover with no direct competition on neither a local nor national scale. At its heart, SOBR is proving that a bar can serve as a force for good in its community. From partnering with organisations like Girls Who Walk, championing local artisans like Almondine and Flower Vogue, and supporting mental health courses like the Scottish Association for Mental Health, SOBR platforms local partners, contributes positively to the local economy, and, ultimately, reimagines hospitality by creating a welcoming environment where everyone genuinely belongs. In such a short time since its opening, SOBR has certainly established itself as far more than Aberdeen’s only alcohol-free bar. The venue has become a trusted community hub, weaving together local businesses, organisations, and artisans in a way that few hospitality venues ever achieve. At the same time, the company has successfully transformed Aberdeen’s nightlife into something much safer, more connected, and significantly less regretful. Ultimately, the entire SOBR team has worked tirelessly to create something genuinely special and meaningful for their local community and beyond, and, for that, they should feel incredibly proud. We at SME News Magazine are delighted to recognise SOBR as Scotland’s Trailblazers in Low and No Alcohol Nightlife Experiences 2026, and cannot wait to see what is next for this visionary venue as it continues to prove that great nights do not need alcohol, just the right company. Contact: Kate Kenyon Company: SOBR Web Address: www.sobrbar.co.uk According to recent research from YouGov, one-third of British adults who drink report that they are drinking less alcohol than they were 12 months ago, with 51% of those cutting back due to a reduced desire to drink. As more and more people across the UK embark on their own sober journeys, there has been a rising demand for spaces where non-drinkers can connect, socialise, and let loose. Enter SOBR, a dedicated venue and social movement striving to prove that joy, laughter, and connection cannot be found at the bottom of a bottle.
