SME News Q4 2025/ 18 For the countless business owners who are barely scraping by, despite feeling like the operation they are running is a success, Jason Withers can lend a much-needed hand. Helping owner-managed businesses (usually those with a turnover of between £250K and £2M) realise greater profitability and personal return from their business, Jason leverages the Profit First cash management system to see leaders build businesses that serve them – not the other way around. Online entrepreneurs and brick-and-mortar business owners alike desire the same thing, regardless of whether they are just starting out or have been grafting for what feels like a lifetime: a more profitable business – and one that actually pays them - and yet for most, this sadly eludes them. Understanding that profit is a habit, not a one-time event at month or year end moves the dial instantly. Jason believes that every business owner deserves to be fully rewarded financially for the time, effort, skill and energy that they invest in their business so that they have more choices that positively impact their personal and business life and their social outlook. He is guided by the belief that there are too many great businesses not reaching the level of profit they should - rarely because the business itself is failing or due to a lack of effort – but simply because nobody has ever helped the owner to figure out how to manage their incoming cash with maximum effectiveness and efficiency. Jason laments – “a lot of the time I’m working with people who feel that they have been let down by their accountant and/or bookkeeper, that they haven’t ‘been on the business owner’s side’” Before we dive into this, it pays to understand more about Jason – the multi-Award winning ‘Profit First Pro’ – himself. Graduating from Liverpool John Moores University in 1992 with a degree in accounting and finance, Jason decided that the life of an accountant was not for him and instead pursued a more commercial route - training to be a branch manager at a builders merchants in Oxfordshire where he guided his branch back to breakeven from a six-figure loss 12 months after taking the helm. The strategy he used then still underpins much of the work he undertakes with clients today. Since moving to London in 1996, Jason spent the next 14 years working in a financial capacity in a design agency before setting up his financial and business consultancy in 2011 delivering a hybrid mix of coaching, consultancy and ‘done for you’ financial services, whilst also working under the Government’s ‘Growth Accelerator’ scheme helping businesses to implement financial systems to support their growth. In late 2016, Jason was introduced to the best selling finance book ‘Profit First’ by Mike Michalowicz, (which has now sold over 1.4 million copies across 50 countries, been translated into 27 languages and implemented in 1M+ businesses globally). In 2019, Jason certified as a Profit First Professional …which fundamentally changed how he delivered his skill and expertise from a more ‘traditional’ approach to an entirely forward focused one. Since then, Jason has implemented the Profit First system in 50 businesses across a diverse range of clients in a range of business sectors, making Jason the perfect man for the job! In early 2023, Jason joined the Profit First UK team as their first ‘Guide’ – mentoring other aspiring Profit First Professionals through their Certification and beyond – work that gives him immense pleasure and pride. His core values of authority, credibility and success shine through in this community. In 2024, he was named ‘Profit First UK Firm of the Year’. Focusing on the desired outcomes of the business owner first and then reverse engineering the business to meet those expectations over time is central to his approach in the delivery of his work. The level of Jason’s commercial focus is an uncommon skill - the natural ability to interpret a business’ core numbers into real time, results-driven, future focused insights and strategies that support the goals of the business owner is rare, but it is truly where the pathway to real cash based financial transformations are originated.
