As Owner and Manager of Tuckam Care, Samantha Preston celebrates it being named Best Holistic Caring & Home Care Services Provider 2025 – Dorset, we sit down for a chat with her. “I have always had a passion for supporting others and I have worked in many different support settings, but when I discovered domiciliary care, I know I would never be happy anywhere else,” Samantha begins. “In my last registered manager role, I wanted to make changes to the way we were doing things and kept being told no, so I decided if I couldn’t make changes I wanted to for the better, I would go out and form my own care company and provide the care I wanted with staff that supported me.” For more than 15 years, Tuckam Care has been providing the highest standard of care to vulnerable people, tailoring its range of specialist services to meet their specific needs. These include personal care, 24hour care, overnight care, care after hospital discharge, assistance with meals, dementia care, community integration, complex care, continence care, shopping, light domestic duties, and any other duties that the individual needs help with. The team strive to make the experience as cost-effective and stress-free as possible, taking pressure off families, and doing their best to give the individual as much choice as possible. Samantha gives us further insight into what the team’s work entails. “In working collectively with families, we often take responsibility to perform tasks that would usually be undertaken by the family, such as ordering and maintenance of equipment. We take on these tasks to help take some of the pressure off families and loved ones, as we understand caring for loved ones can be a huge burden and we recognise that additional support from care providers can be invaluable. We at Tuckam Care do not only support the service user; we support the wider family, too.” What gives Tuckam Care that unique edge to provide such an outstanding level of care is the way it treats its staff. It is devoted toward treating all staff with respect and supporting them to develop both personally and professionally. Staffing continues to be a challenge within the sector – but not for Tuckam Care. Samantha and her management team are very hands-on, both in supporting their staff and in being involved with clients. Samantha comments, “We have had a lot of comments from our staff saying how lovely it is to see the managers out supporting the team and getting to know the service users as well as they do.” Clients aren’t short of positive things to say about Tuckam Care, either, with one person sharing, “Tuckam Care has been assisting my mother with regular visits since she was diagnosed with dementia. Recently, there have been health complications and a progression in Mum’s disease that have put a lot of pressure on myself and my family. The carers have been exceptional in adapting to my mum’s needs. I have had 24-hour support from Diane and Sam at Tuckam Care during this time. Just being able to speak to professional knowledgeable people at this time has been a godsend. I would recommend Tuckam Care to anyone. In my opinion, they offer a five-star service and from their frontline carers all the way up to their management and their 24-hour support staff.” Now, we are keen to find out what’s next for this exceptional company. Samantha reveals, “We want to work with primary care such as GP surgeries to develop a better way of working within the community to keep service users at home and reduce hospital admissions.
