Located right on the border between Cornwall and Devon, DW Groundworks Ltd is a groundworks company serving private and commercial clients alike across both counties. Below, we take a closer look at some of the projects the company worked on this year that led to it being recognised as the best in its class. Best Groundworks Company 2025 – Cornwall Part of Tamar Group Ltd – along with its sister company, Tamar Landscapes Ltd, itself recognised in this issue – DW Groundworks is responsible for the groundworks and civil engineering solutions for a host of projects across the region, many of which it carries out in partnership with its sister brand. Despite being a relatively new operation, DW Groundworks has faced tremendous success since opening its doors, excelling across residential and commercial projects of all sizes. Working as a main contractor or a subcontractor, the company’s reputation as a dependable, solutions-focused construction partner precedes it, leading it to secure a number of exciting contracts over the last few months alone. One of the standouts saw it offer a full groundworks package to a new-build development project in the area, carried out alongside both the NHBC and Plymouth City Council. The team on this build even got to work with local property services company BuildX (SW) Ltd, a collaboration that proved highly successful. This development – which, like all projects carried out by the company, was fully compliant with current specifications and regulatory requirements – saw the DW Groundworks team cover the necessary roadworks by removing defective tar and stone build-up, install kerbs and edgers with precision alignment, and even construct service strips and driveways from durable, 80mm block paving, in turn offering improved, longer-term performance. To highlight the full scope of solutions DW Groundworks covers, this only scratches the surface of its work on this project, which also included high-quality stab installation for pathways and rear patios, the fitting of private drainage systems to plots that were then connected to the appropriate sewers, the installation/programming of relevant utility service connections along with utility providers, and even engineering retaining walls and placing a layer of topsoil to level the land. Once DW Groundworks had worked its magic, the team at Tamar Landscapes came in, completing the development by adding around 675m2 of turf and installing fencing and concrete posts to the length of around 200 l/m. The latter team then added the finishing touches, resulting in a safe, neat, attractive environment. This complementary approach not only highlights DW Groundworks’ ability to work with others, it also reflects the holistic contruction approach Tamar Group offers through these providers it manages. With this being far from the only example, another site DW Groundworks has worked on alongside both BuildX and a couple of other industry partners is Silver Hills. As the team provided a full range of groundwork and civil engineering services to the project, one particular highlight of their involvement was the exacting highway works completed this past summer. Specifically, the sub-grade testing, road construction preparation, and ironwork (manhole covers and gully gratings) raising and resetting to the finished levels. “Our experienced teams understand the critical path of site infrastructure delivery and bring a proactive, quality-first approach to every scheme.” We believe that the level of teamwork, skill, and efficiency shown across both of these projects alone is more than enough to secure DW Groundworks’ status as the Best Groundworks Company 2025 – Cornwall, but there is more to the both the company and the team than just this handful of services. To this end, the team have been driving expansion these past few months, looking at ways to broaden their portfolio and build relationships with new clients and industry partners. Thus, as we have moved towards the final months of 2025, DW Groundworks has carried out its signature brand of groundworks transformations across the likes of a local Kia dealership, this through a project that started out as just block paving but quickly turned into the ‘full works’ (earthworks, stone laying, kerbing, and even turfing – the latter alongside Tamar Landscapes) – reflecting its prowess across commercial environments as well.
