Scottish Enterprise Awards 2017
6 SME NEWS / Scottish Enterprise Awards 2017 , Fitness &Wellbeing Training Ltd is a client focused fitness coaching business based in Edinburgh. We caught up with the Owner/ Tutor Phil Calvert to find out more and to explore the secrets behind the firm’s success. Fitness & Wellbeing Training Ltd Fitness & Wellbeing Training offers its services across Scotland, supporting a wide range of Clients and helping them feel better through exercise, as Phil explains. “Fitness & Wellbeing Training is a small company that focuses on our client’s goals and not our own. Both Neil Hunter and myself support all of our clients on a variety of issues, including those recovering from illnesses through to those who simply wish to get leaner, or fitter. We work out of all the Edinburgh Leisure gyms and also provide a Work out at home service for our clients in the comfort own homes if they feel that the gym is not appropriate.” Drawing on more than 25 year’s experience between them in personal training, Phil and Neil have a strong knowledge of the trends within the market, which they are keen to share with us. “Within the wider personal training market, it is getting harder to find locations to work out of for independent trainers and a lot of trainers with good potential are having to leave the industry as their income is squeezed by being employed trainers of larger chain operators. This is a National issue. It takes a lot of hard work and commitment to sustain a healthy business in this industry. “In Scotland in particular it is tough to be a personal trainer. In England trainers that hold Level 3 Exercise referral qualification ‘the same as the Scottish trainers’! can work with GP practices to help support with an array of illnesses like Depression and Obesity issues. This still has not come through in Scotland although there is a great need for this resource to assist the NHS in this country. Moving forward this is something that I would like to see change about the so that we can better support clients.” This focus on driving change in the industry is something Phil is very passionate about, as he emphasises in his concluding comments. “Looking to the future, Fitness & Wellbeing Training is keen to become the go to support to the GP’s in Scotland for Diabetes exercise management. As such, I am seeking to obtain a Master degree in Diabetes to help achieve this aim. By the middle of 2018 Fitness & Wellbeing Training will be recruiting a new member of the team and we all will hold Tutor and assessor qualifications. We now hold Level 4 exercise management for Obesity and Diabetes management to arm ourselves with the education to help stave off this growing epidemic.” SCO17014
