A Games that represents all of us. Glasgow was confirmed as the host city for the 2026 Commonwealth Games after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew in 2023. Gayle Shepherd, Director of Executive Office and Social Impact, reflects on the momentous decision: “We stood forward together – as a concept, a city and a united community,” she says proudly. “In doing so, we secured the future of the Commonwealth Games and created a lasting legacy.” That legacy is already being shaped by the energy, passion and moments of magic Scotland has brought to the journey – and few capture that magic better than Finnie, the official Games mascot. With her traffic cone perched proudly on her head (very Glasgow), Finnie brings humour, heart and a sense of fun wherever she goes. Designed by children and young people from schools across the city, she embodies creativity, community and the unmistakable warmth of a Glaswegian welcome. At the heart of Glasgow 2026 is a clear commitment to sustainability, inclusion and belonging. The Games are being delivered with a focus on reducing environmental impact, reimagining how major events are staged, and ensuring benefits are felt long after the Games. We are incredibly grateful to have the work delivered to date recognised through the prestigious Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025. These accolades reflect the collective effort, ambition and impact already achieved on the journey to Glasgow 2026. Receiving both Best Major Sporting & Cultural Event Initiative 2025 and Best International Sporting Event Host 2025 is a powerful endorsement of the vision, commitment and collaboration shown by everyone involved so far. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved so far – the teams, partners, communities and supporters whose bravery, commitment and collaboration are turning ambition into reality. And if you think you’ve seen something special already… you haven’t seen anything yet. Just wait until next year. Contact: Gayle Shepherd Company: Glasgow 2026 Web Address: www.glasgow2026.com
