Southern Enterprise Awards 2019
10 | SME NEWS - Southern Enterprise Awards 2019 Leading Supplier of Trade Hygiene Products 2019 Allied Hygiene is one of the largest independent UK based manufacturers of wet wipes, dry wipes and paper consumables. Recognised as the leading supplier of trade hygiene products for 2019, we caught up with the firm’s Director, Andy Phippen, who provided us with a glimpse into the innerworkings of the award-winning company and the sparkling services they deliver. Based in Erith, South East London, Allied Hygiene has purpose built manufacturing site with the latest state of the art production equipment and warehousing facility. From this location Allied supplies its distributor customer base in the domestic UK market, other European countries and internationally. Today, the firm is active in seven key markets: food industry, industrial, HORECa (Hotels, Restaurants and Catering), Retail (in-store hygiene), dairy sector, Facilities Management and Medical/Healthcare markets. Since their inception, Allied’s mission has been to improve hygiene in all markets in which they operate within, facilitating health and safety as well as regulatory compliance for the end users of their products. As for how the firm are able to achieve their main mission, Andy begins by informing us of the steps the team takes to ensure that they reach all of Allied’s set goals. “To achieve these objectives, we engage continually with our distributors and end users, invest in New Product Development to drive product improvement, reduce cost and add both innovation and value. Investment in our team is one of the main keys to our success – they convert our vision to reality.” Speaking of the team, Allied has operated as a family based business from the very beginning, which has resulted in an internal culture that is all about open communication and an informal style. As a result, this culture allows individuals to feel more comfortable and encourages team work and mutual support. When discussing the internal culture, Andy is keen to touch on the significant role the team play in the overall success of the firm, noting how their collaborative approach allows them to go above and beyond their clients’ expectations. “These values were one of the key factors which enabled Allied to recover from a major fire in 2015 a result of an arson attack. Employees worked tirelessly under very difficult and stressful periods to rebuild the business. “To ensure together we achieve and deliver high service levels for our customers, good and regular communication across all areas of the business as well as continual professional development opportunities are key to reaching this goal.” In recent months, Allied has had some excellent pipeline growth projects which have been centred around further investments in new technology machines to open new market opportunities, some innovative new product developments and added value to some existing products to deliver improved hygiene, ease of use and greater sustainability for our products. Bringing the interview to a close, Andy signs off by revealing what the future has in store for the firm, highlighting some of the exciting products that have recently been given the green light. “Most recently Allied has commissioned a new machine to produce flowwrap packaged products, which reduces packaging waste and will enable us to more effectively access the hospital/healthcare markets. Ultimately, it’s an exciting time to be at Allied!” Looking ahead to what the future holds, Allied will continue to strive to deliver a service that is innovative, enhances value and most of all, is ahead of the curve. These three qualities have seen the firm, so far, reach extraordinary heights and righteously earn themselves the title of Leading Supplier of Trade Hygiene Products 2019.
