78 | Southern Enterprise Awards 2020 Founded over a decade ago, Elite Training South West was formed with the mission of providing a supportive and flexible learning environment for adult learners across a multitude of communities in Devon. Today, the firm provides free and nationally-accredited English, Maths, and IT qualifications, as well as free Prepare To Work courses which equip learners with the tools they need to find and succeed in a job they love. Following the firm’s own success in this years’ Southern Enterprise Awards from SME News Magazine, we take a closer look at what it has to offer. Since first opening its doors, Elite Training South West has been responsible for helping more than five thousand learners from all over Devon achieve qualifications and training, and have successfully completed multiple free community projects. Whether it be helping digitally-isolated learners grasp beginner’s IT skills, working with local job centres to support clients, or partnering with youth commitment projects to give young people the opportunity to learn and train key skills, Elite Training South West is at the heart of it. Across the board however, the firm’s mission remains the same; to ensure quality information, advice, guidance, and support is provided in a safe and inclusive environment, where everyone has an opportunity to improve skills for learning and for work. Elite Training South West has put together an exceptional team of tutors and course providers whose expertise in their given subjects ensures learners are receiving the highest quality service. Every member of this team are passionate about providing every learner with the best opportunities and resources, and they aim to constantly improve and move forward with their ability to do so. For example, Elite Training South West have recently included a third learning session each day in order to give learners more flexibility and opportunity for when they can attend the centre. This flexibility and opportunity is more important than ever, especially with the impacts of COVID-19 still being felt across the region. Elite Training South West is doing everything in its power to safely help as many people as possible, whether it be with assistance in finding work, or retraining and gaining new qualifications. As far as safety extends, the firm will adjust its learning spaces to adhere to social distancing guidelines, whilst also increase the number of online resources that it is able to provide so that it can reach and support a wider range of learners. Elite Training South West is committed to providing its learners with the flexibility that allows them to gain their qualifications in a way that fits in with their lives. It provides a relaxed and compassionate environment, where staff can encourage learners without pressure. The tutors deliver a bespoke plan for each learner, allowing them to learn at a pace that is right for them, and they are always willing to go above and beyond in offering support and guidance. It does unfortunately look as though COVID-19 will remain a part of our lives for quite some time yet, but the future of Elite Training South West remains optimistic about the future. It is wholly committed to constantly updating its approach, and looking for new ways to support its learners and to improve the services that are offered to them. In the last few years alone, the firm has launched its Prepare to Work course so that it can assist learners beyond simply gaining formal qualifications. It also offers online support and guidance, which is invaluable right now. The future holds plans to launch a Job Club, which will run once a week and aim to help unemployed people in the Exeter area access helpful resources that will assist them in getting back to work and achieving their goals. This will include providing information on a range of careers and employers, sign-posting services and training providers where clients can gain the appropriate qualifications and arranging talks by potential employers from different sectors. Ultimately, now is the time to train and perfect those skills that employers will be on the lookout for once the United Kingdom finally rids itself of this virus, or at least once life resumes some level of normality. Elite Training South West has supported its learners endlessly through this crisis, and will continue to support them as they come out the other side with a world of potential awaiting them.
