Southern Enterprise Awards 2021

104 | Southern Enterprise Awards 2021 Aug21520 As an independent consultant focusing solely on the modular sector, Mister Modular, aka Mike Norris, provides a full suite of services to clients considering a modular solution for their next building project, whether this is a temporary or permanent requirement. Company Director and Owner, Mike Norris, can assist with and oversee the initial design, detailed design, whole project costings, pre-delivery site development, planning/building regulations applications, refurbishment of existing facilities, or indeed provide a comprehensive ‘turn-key’ package from concept to completion. Mister Modular operates throughout the South West, from Cheltenham down to Poole and all areas to the West. Recent and current projects include a large office facility for an NHS Healthcare Trust, a bespoke designed Business & Events centre in Cheltenham town centre, and a four-classroom Maths Block for a Multi- Academy Trust in West Cornwall Through his consultancy, Mike also supports a Worcestershire-based company which specialises in retail units for hire and purchase, and as their Head of Projects, he has overseen projects throughout the UK, working with Morrison’s, the Co-op and Murrayfield Rugby Stadium among others. Historic successes include securing the order for the initial foray into Drive Thru facilities adopted by both Costa and Starbucks, which received recognition throughout the trade press. “Although modular is by no means a recent innovation, today’s technology allows the structures to be considered as a permanent solution, and not simply a temporary option,” explains Mike. “This goes in tandem with the ‘fast track’ nature of selecting a build process that will allow occupation within weeks, not months. As such, clients are keen to receive guidance as to the decisions that need to be made, and quickly.” Having an understanding of the range of products and their relevant nuances (when comparing same) is integral to the eventual decision. Mike’s clients come from a plethora of sectors, but are primarily educational, retail and commercial, and are unlikely to have experienced involvement in an off-site project; as such, it’s those within the relevant organisations that engage his services for advice, design input, procurement and project management. “As an independent business, and with 25 years of experience in the modular sector - having successfully delivered over 150 projects throughout the UK - I’m not blinkered by adopting just one product or design and can offer potential clients an array of options to ultimately meet their requirements,” he continues. “Supported by carefully selected partners with whom I have a collaborative partnership, I can provide ‘bolt on’ services such as concept / structural design, hire or purchase options, pre-delivery site development – essentially a ‘one stop shop’ solution.” Mike is keen to grow the business, while still maintaining the feel of a personal touch to the services provided, allowing clients to develop a rapport throughout the process. A large percentage of the projects he has completed are education-related, and currently, Mike is working with a mentor to identify a simpler package of services that improve the engagement process for the client. Regarding staff members, Mike currently employs a Business Support Manager, and engaged an apprentice in January, who attends a Business Studies course at the local college. The position of Assistant Project Manager is now under review, and likely to join the team in early 2022. “In 2022, I’m launching a subsidiary that focuses on the maintenance and repair of modular buildings already in situ throughout the South West, which will include a seasonal health check to ensure there’s no issues developing that if left ignored, may develop longer-term problems. This would prove of particular benefit to schools, many of whom no longer have the support of a resident caretaker.” Mike is also reviewing the possibility of launching a franchise opportunity, allowing a series of ‘Mister Modulars’ to be operational throughout the UK, who would collaborate with each other and develop a wider supply / support chain. Having recently been awarded the prestigious title of Best Independent Modular Building Consultant – South West in the Southern Enterprise Awards 2021, it’s no wonder that Mike’s customers are delighted with the services they receive, as the following testimonials show. B2B Consultant, Betty Hale, says: “Mike has integrity by the bucketload, brilliant skills, huge knowledge - second to few in the modular industry – and charming manners. Organisations from all sectors, new and established, are already benefiting from his advice, and happy doing business with Mister Modular.” Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust found Mike and his services the perfect one-stop-shop: “Mister Modular offered sound advice, helped to develop the scheme, then managed the whole process with great efficiency.” The Managing Director of Rapid Retail agrees that Mister Modular perfectly fits the bill: “We were seeking a company that completely grasped the concept of what Rapid Retail are all about, and to guide us through the technical elements and project management process. Mister Modular is that company and more some!” And the Chief Financial Officer of Southerly Point Multi-Academy Trust couldn’t be happier with the services received: “Many thanks to both you and your team for pulling out all the stops to make this happen over such a short period of time. It is evident from feedback received that without your support and hard work we would have struggled to have finished this in time for the start of term.” Contact: Mike Norris Web Address: www.mistermodular.co.uk Best Independent Modular Building Consultant – South West Mister Modular Ltd
