Southern Enterprise Awards 2021
114 | Southern Enterprise Awards 2021 Aug21426 Situated in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside, Stonehenge Campsite & Glamping is a great location for a stopover to and from the west country, or a longer holiday with lots on offer locally for all tastes. We speak to Jeffrey Bruce about this quirky hidden gem and what is it that makes it so popular. Stonehenge Campsite & Glamping is a multi-award-winning family-run park, perfectly situated close to Stonehenge and the ideal touring base for the counties of South Wiltshire, Dorset and Hampshire. Owned and managed by Jeffrey Bruce and his family, the site offers a mixture of both traditional camping and glamping - if you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last 10 years, glamping stands for ‘glamourous camping’ and provides a little luxury for the more discerning camper, including bell tents, pods of more permanent structures, kitted out with features such as heating, kettles and fridges. Stonehenge Campsite’s glamping experience, however, is a little different. The site has invested in new glamping options, catering for families as well as couples, groups and individuals. A double decker bus (known as Bustopia) stands proudly, joined by an American Air Stream (silver Dream) and a huge 6-metre family bell tent (The Bellamy). “We are always looking at ideas for development within the company bringing new fresh ideas to our guests,” explains Jeffrey. Having seen a huge rise in staycations over the last 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, such has the appetite for glamping increased that the site’s standard glamping package now even comes with breakfast as standard! When it comes to bog standard camping - and believe me, there’s still plenty of die-hard campers out there - Stonehenge Campsite excels once again, offering several options to suit all requirements, and all levels of camping experience. “We aim to be open and honest with our customers, hence in 2019 we moved to inclusive pricing which automatically includes two adults, up to two children and one dog,” says Jeffrey. “Our hardstanding pitches are available as Best Campsite & Glamping Experience 2021 - Wiltshire Bronze, Silver or Gold, which are a new addition in 2021.” Whilst facilities are second-to-none at the campsite, it is the people who really help to make the experience worthwhile. With a friendly team always on hand to help and assist visitors, all staff receive ongoing training on all aspects of the industry. “We all work together as a team and every one of us can turn our hand to any role. Management leads with the policy that they should be hands on and be prepared to do as the rest of the team.” In fact, such is the need for approachable, helpful and dynamic employees, that personality wins over academic training more often than not as team players in a customer focused business are always welcomed readily by customers. Recently, the campsite was rewarded for its hard work and dedication with the title of Best Campsite & Glamping Experience 2021 – Wiltshire in the Southern Enterprise Awards. It seems, for Jeffrey and the team, the future is looking very bright indeed with upcoming developments this winter season seeing the introduction of a new reception area dedicated to welcoming guests as they arrive, with the infrastructure having already been put in place over the summer. “We are also hoping to add a larger shop with cafe area for our guests to sit and enjoy as, over the past two years, we have had food traders on site which has been warmly received and we wish to develop this side of things.” On a final note, Jeffrey wishes to remind people that Stonehenge Campsite is in fact open all year round – although you might want to give glamping a try during the harsher months!
