Southern Enterprise Awards 2021

56 | Southern Enterprise Awards 2021 Sep21351 Premier Care (Plymouth) Ltd, recognised for its exceptional efforts within the Southern Enterprise Awards 2021, provides support and care services for individuals with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and learning disabilities. They also care for people with sensory loss and individuals who may have related mental health problems and complex needs. Premier Care (Plymouth) Ltd is a supported living provider and supports people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs and physical disabilities. The organisation started in 2007, and was set up by three women, who all had a background in care and had worked together at Plymouth College. At the time, they found it extremely difficult to be trusted by commissioning teams, and it was close to ending before it even started, with only £1000 left in the business account. However, they began supporting one person who had previously suffered several placement breakdowns and had a history of trauma, and managed to support them in dramatically improving their quality of life. Since then, they have had continued success with this model and now support 30 people and counting and employ 120 people. The model of supporting individuals with complex needs in finding stability has remained the same across the course of time, but the way they do it has changed as they have learned from experience and literature. Premier Care is the only provider in the area to truly take on the Practice Leadership model in the organisation. It uses the PERMAH model (developed by Seligman) to improve people’s quality of life and quality of sleep and its very own SMILES functional assessment to reduce behaviours of concern. The work it has done and continues to do has been recognised across the UK. As a result, Premier Care has been selected to support PBS UK to develop Practice Leadership training across Devon. Other providers and the people they support can benefit from this. Moreover, Premier Care has successfully tendered to join the Transforming Care initiative (now referred to as Test of Change). Rather than be a passive bystander within this, the Best Supported Living Provider - Devon organisation has been entrusted with arranging provider meetings to support the continued improvement of Test of Change and support improved partnership working. Unfortunately, the current trends seen within the industry are closely connected to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 has added an extra layer of complexity to running the organisation, but the Premier Care team adjusted efficiently, quickly became more knowledgeable regarding infectious diseases and infection prevention. This has resulted in its Preventing & Managing an Outbreak Guidance being created. It has stood the test of time from the start of the pandemic until the current day and has been distributed nationally so other organisations can benefit. In order to maintain its industry-leading operations, Premier Care has further adapted by utilising digital solutions quickly. All its recordings are now electronic, enabling a commitment to GDPR compliance, and the firm has recently conducted a data protection toolkit to demonstrate this. As Premier Care continues to pursue its mission of development, its primary focus is expanding its supported living service in Devon without a fixed deadline on course. In doing so, this award- winning firm is striving to be the best, most valued support to its valued clients.
