138 | UK Enterprise Awards 2021 Apr21369 Most Dedicated Performing Arts School 2021 - West Midlands Based in North Warwickshire, Nouveau Theatre School provides dance and theatre tuition to inspire Britain’s finest young performers. Following its recent success in the UK Enterprise Awards 2021, we got in touch with CEO Charlotte Stockton to discover more about how the school earned itself the title of ‘Most Dedicated Performing Arts School 2021 - West Midlands’. Since 2009, Nouveau Theatre School has been enriching and educating children of all abilities with practical and theoretical training in the performing arts field. Charlotte Stockton, CEO of the school, provides a brief overview of the company and offers more insight into its clientele. “Here at Nouveau Theatre School, we offer a wide variety of performing arts classes to children from 18 months plus. To ensure there is something for everyone, we have two sections to the school, one for those that want to attend for fun, fitness and socialising, and another for those that wish to pursue their training further. Students take part in a variety of events throughout the year, travelling up and down the country. Additionally, we enter students for OFQUAL registered exams regularly, compete regionally, nationally, and internationally and students perform in our full school show every 18 months. “As we are a very close-knit school, all age groups mix together amazingly, so it’s reassuring to know that everyone will get on in our safe environment. Seeing the younger students mix with the older ones is reminiscent of a family and that certainly reflects our core values here”. What tends to differentiate Nouveau Theatre School from its closest competitors is its relaxed approach to teaching and opportunities for development, as Charlotte explains further. “There is no pressure on students to take part in things they do not wish to but equally, through our exceptional teaching programmes, we are able to play a key role in helping a child prepare for a career in performing arts. From those who come along to simply enjoy the art of dance and performance, to those who wish to take their training one step further, the ethos of the school is based purely on the healthy relationships between its students”. Over the years the number of dance convention events has really grown, something which Charlotte is delighted to have seen. “It’s really lovely to have seen so many dancers get the opportunity to work with amazing choreographers and meet other talented individuals like themselves. Naturally, this has opened up incredible opportunities for dancers which I think is wonderful”. When it comes to recruitment, anyone joining the company must possess a range of personal qualities, as Charlotte states. “In addition to having excellent knowledge in their chosen area of teaching, we look for individuals who are caring, driven and able to work well within a team. These three qualities can help our students achieve results but mostly importantly, help them grow and develop as people”. As with many other industries and markets, the recent outbreak of COVID-19 has changed the way the performing arts field operates as Charlotte points out. “Online training has really changed our industry and I think it’s here to stay. For some dancers it has really helped them discover new ways of working which has to be a good thing!”. Finally, Charlotte discusses the main benefits of the firm’s location before sharing some of its goals for the future. “Being located in the UK has so many benefits for dancers and performers. Firstly, we have access to so many opportunities, choreographers, events, and a wonderful dance community that is forever evolving. With the most incredible post-16 training available here, it really is an exciting time for those who are developing their skills. “One day, we would like to build our own studio so that we are able to expand our business and work on new projects to help and support those who have a passion for the arts. But for now, we hope to continue our growth and spread awareness of the performing arts sector!”. Company: Nouveau Theatre School Contact: Charlotte Stockton Email:
