UK Enterprise Awards 2021
194 | UK Enterprise Awards 2021 Best Motorcycle Training Service - County Down Founded in 2019, North Down Rider Training has become the best motorcycle training school in the local area, focusing on 1 to 1 professional tuition for students to keep them safe on the roads from the very start. North Down Rider Training (NDRT) makes you feel at ease and confident on the bike by offering only 1 on 1 training, ensuring that its instructors have the full attention of its students. All the instructors are registered with the DVA and have completed at least one advanced level test with a recognised road safety body. Each instructor has a passion for motorcycling and wants to see its pupils not just passing a test but genuinely getting the best motorcycling experience possible. Its focus is on the quality of instruction for all its levels. ‘The speed and progress of the courses we offer are always dictated by the knowledge and ability of the student. We will ensure you have the right knowledge and skills to move comfortably onto the next stage of learning without feeling pressured,’ says Lead Trainer, Simon Beckett. Without utilising groups of students to teach in, the instructors can solely focus on each individual student. Due to this unique training proposition, its client base has grown through the recommendations of its approach to training. Each instructor completes at least one advanced test with recognised road safety bodies; striving to continue and improve its knowledge by taking additional tests. This extra added measure by the instructors not only exceeds standard training but helps improve the overall experience for its students as just relying on the basics is no where near good enough for this all-star company. Over the last couple of years, NDRT has seen a large increase in business. Even with the Covid-19 lockdowns, it hasn’t dampened its spirits or its ability to provide the highest standard of motorcycle training there is to offer. ‘With people being nervous about public transport, we have seen an increase in demand for 125cc vehicles and CBT courses being completed. Many of these students have then returned to complete their full licence having enjoyed the experience on two wheels.’ Simon continues, ‘where we are based, we have excellent coastal roads and quiet country roads which are ideal for teaching novice riders. The scenery alone can be quite spectacular. For our advanced lessons we have access to the Republic of Ireland through the common travel area which means we can teach people about border travel, different units of speed and distance and currency issues for toll roads. All this really allows us to offer a diverse range of training for our students.’ As a small business, North Down Riding Training must ensure its staff have the appropriate DVA qualifications, however it doesn’t stop there. Simon says, ‘We want our staff to really enjoy motorcycling and have a passion for passing on this knowledge to others, so we insist on at least one advanced riding qualification being completed. This will assist our staff to go further as part of their CPD each year.’ For the future, NDRT hopes to expand and bring on other likeminded instructors to the team. ‘We will start to promote our driving courses and form links with the local road safety charities and groups as well,’ Simon declares. With all the additional courses and education the instructors choose to take as part of their own training, it is clear to see why they are considered the best motorcycle training service in Northern Ireland; providing excellent service, dedicated 1 to 1 training and first-class road safety for all its students and staff members alike.
