UK Enterprise Awards 2021
217 | UK Enterprise Awards 2021 Most Innovative On- Premise / Data Centre Solutions Provider 2021 Nexstor Limited came into being in 2004 as a provider of data storage and backup solutions. Over the years, the company has evolved to become the end-to-end technology provider they are today. With bases in Nottingham, London and a technical centre in Gloucester, Nexstor Limited provides data platforms for backup, disaster recovery, and storage and archive facilities. It independently architects end-to-end solutions for their clients using products and technologies from a wide range of leading global providers. Specialists in project planning, design and implementation, the company ensures their clients’ IT infrastructure is in safe hands. The client is fully supported from inception through to migration and in-life delivery. In the UK, some of the most successful business sectors are also those which generate the most data. Examples are finance, research, genomics and, of course, universities. Nexstor is able to help its clients meet their ever-shifting requirements for increased capacity and performance. The company recently worked with the British Antarctic Survey team to deliver high performance, scalable storage infrastructure. BAS was formed in 1962 and is world-renowned for enabling interdisciplinary research in the polar regions. Their existing solution was ageing and costing more and more to administer and maintain as a consequence. BAS was looking for a storage solution to maximise performance and flexibility that would be able to grow to meet their future needs too. Nexstor completed a bespoke analysis of customer requirements and recommended the most appropriate solutions. Two tender processes resulted, firstly in the implementation of an archive storage project – a resilient three node Qumulo-based solution installed at the Cambridge headquarters - and secondly, the delivery of a flash storage solution for the High-Performance Computing department. Since the implementation of the new solutions, the customer has seen a “very significant improvement across every key metric, from performance to latency and bandwidth”. BAS is now future-proofed and ready for the data that the new polar research ship, RRS Sir David Attenborough, will be gathering. This is just one of the many success stories in Nexstor’s case files. Although the firm has a portfolio of high-profile clients, there’s still a clear focus on providing value for money at Nexstor, a significant factor in making it the first choice of healthcare providers such as the Morecambe Bay Trust and Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Years of experience in the industry, combined with the flexibility to provide solutions both on-premise and in the cloud depending on each customer’s unique requirements, differentiate Nexstor from their competition, as do its standout products. NexProtect, the company’s award-winning Hybrid Cloud backup service, provides businesses and organisations with a flexible, secure and cost- effective means of replicating data offsite. Nexstor Cloud enables customers to move away from a traditional “on-premise” infrastructure into Nexstor’s private cloud environment. The team are passionate that moving to a cloud- based model should not mean the client has to compromise on security, flexibility or cost. Working with Nexstor, as an alternative to the “big 3” cloud providers, customers benefit from a more personalised approach. As a result, many clients have stayed with the company for well over a decade, testimony to Nexstor’s dedication to serving its client base. In addition, the business has almost no staff turnover. Catherine Osborne, Marketing Manager at the firm, describes Nexstor Limited as “one big happy family”. The co-founders and directors are still active in the day-to-day running of the business and stay in regular contact with clients. They also empower staff to make decisions independently. The company’s future plans include the integration of its cloud-based services. They are looking to develop a front-end that is both functional and easy for clients to use themselves if they wish to do so. In addition, Nexstor will be focusing on the operational needs of their growing base of international clients. It plans to launch globally distributed data management services to users in both the USA and Asia. Consequently, as the requirement for data management services continues to increase, Nexstor is ready for the challenge.
