98 | UK Enterprise Awards 2021 Jun21448 Best Electronic Healthcare Solutions Provider 2021 In 2018, the NHS was the world’s largest purchaser of fax machines. It demonstrates the way in which this organisation often struggles to keep up with the needs and the technologies of the day. CCube Solutions lies at the forefront of digital healthcare, offering cost effective solutions for those who want to deliver electronic health records. We take a closer look at the firm, following the team’s incredible success in the UK Enterprise Awards. The last twenty years have seen an amazing transformation both in the technology that is available and in how commonplace it has become. There are very few people who go through life without looking at their smartphones or using computers. The challenge for organisations is to keep up with these changes as and when they happen, but for large operations this can be difficult. Few businesses face the challenges of the UK’s NHS. Operating across different countries, it faces incredible difficulties in the form of public and private records, and making sure that these are not only up to date, but accessible to those who need it when they need it. Good medical records offer a comprehensive history to medical professionals when they need it most, but it is only recently that the systems have started to match up to what is expected of them. This is due, in no small part, to the tireless efforts of the team at CCube Solutions. The team have become an invaluable support network for the NHS, working with them on projects for the last twenty years. Their skill has seen them undertake numerous projects with incredible success, providing cost-effective and easily scalable solutions for this large organisation. The team has worked hard to ensure that their offering is capable of meeting the specific and rigorous requirements expected not only by the NHS teams, but by the public at large who they are protecting. As an independent UK SME, the company has worked hard to ensure its processes and solutions comply with established standards, and has recently been accredited with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and ISO 27701, to ensure security and integrity of patient information held in its EDRM solutions. The CCube software suite is the heart of the operation, currently holding and managing some 450 million documents, containing over 2 billion pages for 32 million patients across 30 NHS organisations across the UK. It’s a remarkable achievement, and one which has only been made possible thanks to the incredible initiative and innovation that the company is built around. Working with individual NHS Trusts, the team’s digital solutions have the capacity to be replicated across the NHS system, allowing the different parts of the complex web to upgrade their services as and when they need to. The best way to explore the team’s work, and their amazing achievements working alongside NHS teams, is through looking at case studies of their work. At St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, for example, the NHS team started a project to digitise and deliver electronic patient records. The intention was to guarantee notes availability, improve the quality of patient care and, of course, save money. Working closely with the team at CCube Solutions, a custom scanning bureau was created. Since its introduction, there have been annual savings of £1.4 million from a £1.2 million investment. Over 7,000 files per week were stopped from being hand delivered. St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust became the first trust in the UK to stop using paper records in clinical practice. It has been a monumental achievement, one which was only possible because the collaborative mindset of the team at CCube Solutions. One of the factors that has been key to its success has been the innovative scan-on-demand model used. Instead of scanning in every single record, regardless of usefulness, only the files that are needed have been scanned. This has allowed the team to achieve enormous savings on an otherwise overwhelming project.
