UK Enterprise Awards 2022

8 | UK Enterprise Awards 2022 (www.benefitscloud.co.uk), which is a simple to use, flexible online platform that provides access to a range of retail discounts, deals, and offers, enabling the individual to save money. However, the company hasn’t got to where it is today without facing multiple challenges head on; since being established over nine years ago (when still in the aftermath of the 2008/09 recession), the most significant challenge it has faced is the COVID-19 pandemic. Whilst this jettisoned HR to the top of most business’ agendas, many organisations mothballed and opportunities for growth became limited. Adam comments, “It was important for us to stay relevant, retain an active presence, and do whatever we could to ensure we not only survived, but came out of the difficult period in the strongest possible shape. We did this through careful control of our own costs, but also by continuing to invest in our social media and marketing campaigns, sharing information and helpful resources for other business owners at their time of greatest need. We feel this really helped us and ensured potential clients knew we were still ready and able to help them, whenever they needed us.” And Petaurum HR wouldn’t be what it is without its outstanding team. Adam tells us, “As Steve Jobs famously said, ‘Great things in business are never done by one person; they’re done by a team of people’. Our team are everything and as captured in our values, we fundamentally believe that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We each have a different set of skills, experience, and approaches, but the glue that holds us together is our sense of purpose, shared values, and commitment to what we’re aiming to achieve.” When Adam and Mark set up the business, they made a pledge to themselves that whilst working Petaurum HR was incorporated in May 2012 and started trading in January 2013 with the mission to provide the full breadth of HR services, from large-scale transformation and consulting projects, one-off pieces of work for individual clients, and the provision of straightforward HR advice and support to its retained clients. Its largest client has 27,000 employees and its smallest, just one! In light of the firm’s extraordinary success within the UK Enterprise Awards 2022, we got in touch with Co-Founder and Director, Adam Davey to learn more. The story of Petaurum HR begins in a Costa Coffee, where cofounders, Adam Davey and Mark Dyer were thinking about a company name – Why Petaurum HR? Petaurum (Pet-or-um) is Latin for springboard, encapsulating what the firm is about and what it wants to achieve – providing all its clients with a springboard to launch them towards their business goals. Petaurum HR’s expert team creates bespoke solutions for clients which align with their culture, business objectives, and aspirations. With over 90 years’ combined experience, their support adds value to clients’ people management approaches, giving them the expertise they require, when they need it. Formed out of a passion for providing a jargonfree and effective way of supporting companies, its team believes in and enjoys collaborating with like-minded people who value integrity, fairness, and loyalty. By working in this way, they aim to develop long-term relationships and provide only the best HR service and support. Adam Davey says, “We always say there are lots of HR providers out there, but there is no-one else who does HR the way we do! It’s us, our team, and the special relationships we develop with our clients that make us unique. We don’t do vanilla. In our experience, business owners and directors don’t want bland, generic advice. We bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table to provide advice that is specifically tailored to their situation and the outcome they’re looking for.” What also makes Petaurum HR stand out is that, unusually for an HR provider, it has developed its own employee benefits portal, Benefits Cloud HR Consultancy of the Year 2022 Apr22235 hard, they would have some fun along the way, reward performance, and share the company’s success. ‘Team’ is important to them, which means working with people whose attitude and values fit with the unique team culture and values, who have the right level of motivation to succeed, who can perform within the working environment, and who have the ability to succeed in the job. Now focused on the future, Adam and Petaurum HR’s plans are to drive further growth and help more clients to achieve their own business goals by supporting them with the right advice at the right time. The aim is also to further develop the team with the recruitment of more HR advisers and hopefully an apprentice. This is in addition to continuing to diversify Benefits Cloud into the clubs and associations market, and continuing to support charity partners, St Barnabas (www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk) and SimPal (www.yoursimpal.com) through innovation, time, and sponsorship.
