UK Enterprise Awards 2023

103 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Apr23431 Best Jewellery Restoration Company 2023 – Edinburgh & SME Craftmanship Award 2023 It’s often easy to forget those master craftspeople still exist, surrounded as we are by AI-generated content, and fast results. Ultimately, there are people out there who celebrate the years that it takes to hone a skill and refine a talent – and that appreciation isn’t going anywhere, no matter how much technology continues to develop and impact countless other industries and sectors. So, let’s talk about one such master of their craft - Lukasz Sobstyl, and Edinburgh Jewellery Repair Ltd. When it comes to the world of jewellery, competition is notoriously high with the skill level to match. Lukasz has thrived through offering a breadth of services that indeed exceed all expectations, as he explains in his opening comments. “We offer jewellery repairs and antique jewellery restoration to anyone who needs it. We are the only workshop in Edinburgh focused on retail repairs. There are not many in the whole of Scotland which offer this service and even fewer with trained staff in this matter. As a team, we’re always trying to maintain the high standard of our services and we always learn something new and find a new way to be better in the craft.” Edinburgh Jewellery Repair Ltd is all about the unique, the novel, and the specialised. Where this becomes incredibly apparent is in the company’s selection of handmade jewellery, all made from scratch – with no computers involved or printed items. Everything is made in the workshop with traditional techniques. For Lukasz, this is a matter of pride. Pride in the years he’s spent honing his personal skills towards excellence. “I value the skill that I have been taught in making jewellery the “old school way” to give the item a much more unique touch – a soul if you like. That is something that you cannot save on the hard drive to print for another customer –it’s truly a one-off item. “Lately we are trying to make more jewellery with Scottish Gold that is coming from panning up north. We also had a good collection of one of the rarest stones in the world that are gem quality Scottish Sapphires. Most of it has now sold but we still have a few left.” This approach and ethos have undoubtedly proven to be successful for Lukasz, as Edinburgh Jewellery Repair Ltd has just moved to new premises driven by the need for more space. “I now have more staff and many more tools than I had when I first established the company. When I look for a new team, I look for the experience at the bench – making jewellery by hand, not only creating designs and projects on the computer. For me, I train with my colleagues almost every day. Every day brings new challenges and exciting repairs to our workshop that we can discuss as a group and find the best solution that will last for a long, long time.” But, what’s next for Edinburgh Jewellery Repair Ltd? Well, Lukasz has his eyes on a new, raw piece of Scottish Sapphire, which is sure to be used to create truly beautiful pieces that will be cherished for a lifetime. “I do have a nice raw piece of Scottish Sapphire that we’re now negotiating to cut and see how many gems we can get out from it. Also, I would like to create another certificate that would be based on the laboratory examination to confirm that those stones are real Scottish Sapphires, and we will be able to test any stone in the future and confirm its origin.” Contact Details Company: Edinburgh Jewellery Repair Ltd Contact: Lukasz Sobstyl, Owner, Manager & Head Jeweller Website: www.edinburghjewelleryrepair.co.uk Telephone: 01315553388 Email: [email protected] Address: 30 London Road.
