Apr23451 English Tutoring Company of the Year 2023 Based on the Isle of Wight, but working with students nationally via Zoom, Lion Education Limited. provides specialist English tutoring to prepare students for grammar and independent school entrance exams. The company’s Director and sole tutor - Gemma Louise Bull - delivers high-quality reading comprehension and creative writing classes, aiming to boost students’ confidence and help them make rapid academic progress. Gemma Louise Bull is a highly qualified English tutor with 19 years of experience teaching and tutoring English. Since her own school days, she has always loved learning, which eventually inspired her to become an English teacher. In 2003, she gained her PGCE from the University of Southampton and went on to work in a variety of roles in schools, including Assistant Head of English and Whole School Literacy Coordinator. After 16 years, Gemma left formal teaching to become an Educational Consultant. In this role, she worked to share her expertise in English Language and Literature as a national and international tutor and lesson designer. She has successfully created bespoke and innovative curriculums for several international companies, receiving an abundance of glowing reviews for her innovative lesson development. Today, through Lion Education Limited., Gemma teaches English to children between Year 3 and Year 8 in preparation for 11+ grammar and independent school entrance exams, including GL, CSSE, SET, and ISEB. Her goal is to provide affordable tuition to support parents as they strive to help their children achieve. To do this, Gemma offers weekly sessions to students throughout the year, as well as one to one holiday sessions for students who need support in specific areas. During the summer holidays, she also offers intensive Summer Booster courses, which are perfect for students taking their exams in the autumn term. Her group sessions are intentionally small to ensure the individual progress is tracked for every student. She offers sessions via zoom, allowing her to work with students from all over the UK. As a tutor, Gemma is unique, not only because of her extensive knowledge and experience, but also because of the warm, inclusive, and friendly learning environment she creates in her lessons. She is committed to making students feel valued and supported, enabling them to progress rapidly and work towards their academic goals. Operating in an unregulated industry, where some companies offer tutoring without the essential qualifications and subject knowledge, Gemma is passionate about delivering the safest and highest quality tutoring services for children. She has an English degree and a teaching qualification, as well as an enhanced DBS certificate and a regularly updated Safeguarding qualification. Gemma is also a qualified Safer Recruitment leader, follows GDPR guidelines, and is registered with the ICO. Gemma creates all of her own lesson materials, including creative writing pieces and mock papers, to deliver original and engaging sessions. She believes that, rather than simply working through existing materials that parents could find and use themselves, tutoring should deliver something extra. She works hard to provide her students with a wealth of unique skills and knowledge, enabling them to succeed in the future. As well as this, Gemma takes the time to build relationships with each and every student and their parents, providing regular feedback and updates through marked homework, regular assessments, and detailed reports. This way, parents know exactly how their child is performing and can access appropriate strategies and resources to support further progress. Above all, Gemma is committed to the wellbeing of her students, prioritising mental health at all times. While the content is always challenging, she continuously provides the utmost support to her students, empowering them to succeed. “I create a nurturing environment in which students feel safe, secure, and confident,” Gemma comments. “Although I ensure progress is achieved in every lesson, I encourage fun and laughter as I believe students make more progress when they are enjoying their learning.” As a result of the excellent tutoring services Gemma provides, Lion Education Limited. has been awarded English Tutoring Company of the Year in the UK Enterprise Awards 2023. In the coming months, Gemma plans to expand her services to offer more resources in order to support children and parents across the UK. In September 2023, alongside a team of elite educators, Gemma will be launching a new and innovative 11+ magazine: 11+ Connect. The magazine will include a range of articles, providing parents with a wealth of information about the UK education system and steps to support progress in English, Maths and social/emotional wellbeing.
