191 | UK Enterprise Awards 2023 Apr23305 HR Consultancy of the Year 2023 Small enough to care, big enough to cope. That’s just one of the promises that UK-wide HR consultancy, Petaurum HR makes to its ever-expanding client base. The company, which has bases in London, Suffolk and Lincoln, was founded in 2012 by HR experts Adam Davey and Mark Dyer. We take a look at the business and how it differentiates itself in the market with Adam. Offering an impressive breadth of HR services from straightforward HR support to large-scale transformations and consulting projects, Petaurum likes to keep things simple. The company provides its services to businesses of all sizes, from those with only one employee to corporate clients. Petaurum’s largest client to date employs over 27,000 staff. So where does the name ‘Petaurum’ come from? Adam explains, “Petaurum (pronounced Pet-orum) is Latin for springboard. This encapsulates what we are about and what we want to achieve. We want to provide all our clients with a springboard to move them towards their business goals. We strive to provide straightforward HR and our focus is on providing proactive services to help set up our clients’ teams for success.” Petaurum lists its values as integrity, loyalty, the team over the individual, fairness, collaboration, and quality. Adam says, “We stay true to these values. They’re embedded into the fabric of the company, from influencing who we recruit to our policies and the way we manage performance and recognise success. They act as a filter and help us to ensure our brand of HR is unique. The whole team is aligned with this ethos. It propels us towards our goals and helps us attract and retain like-minded clients – people we like and enjoy working with.” The team at Petaurum is pivotal to the success of the company. Adam quotes a famous business owner to illustrate the point: “As Steve Jobs said, “Great things in business are never done by one person: they’re done by a team of people”. Our team are everything. We fundamentally believe that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. We each have a different set of skills, experiences and approaches. But the glue that holds us together is our sense of purpose, shared values and commitment to what we’re aiming to achieve.” In the wake of Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic, the HR sector has faced some major challenges. Adam tells us more, “Flexible working arrangements and skills shortages are the two top issues we’re seeing at the moment. But despite everything that’s happened over the past few years, the British entrepreneurial spirit is still alive and kicking. “The Retained EU Law (Revocation and Reform) Bill is in the pipeline this year, paving the way for a post-Brexit reform of UK law. It comes into effect at the end of 2023 and has a transition period up to mid-2026. We’ll be looking out for changes during this period that could affect a whole host of HR-related subjects such as working time, agency workers, fixed-term, parttime and TUPE regulations.” As well as keeping its finger on the pulse of HR regulation, Petaurum has big plans. Adam says, “We’re looking to further develop our team with the recruitment of more HR Advisers and hopefully an apprentice. We’ll also be looking to further diversify our employee benefits portal, Benefits Cloud, into the clubs and associations market. And we’ll continue to support our charity partners St Barnabas Hospice and SimPal, both of whom do amazing work.” For further information on any of the services mentioned above, please visit the Petaurum website.
