SME UK Enterprise Awards 2024/ 66 Most Innovative People Management Training Organisation 2024 The team behind CAPE Coaching & Development Ltd learnt how to be great people managers the hard way! Now, they have produced an innovative and immersive programme to help others develop their management and leadership skills too. We find out more in the wake of the firm being recognised in the UK Enterprise Awards 2024. CAPE Coaching & Development Ltd (CAPE) works primarily with people managers to equip, empower and enable them to be more confident and effective… essentially running management development programmes with a difference! The flagship CAPE programme is different to other management development programmes in the fact that it offers people management training that supports managers so that they can make an immediate and lasting impact. The programmes are designed and delivered in a way that really engages participants and supports immediate performance improvement and clients will benefit from learning how conversation styles, self-belief and authenticity matter. As participants grow in their confidence and impact, they also get the chance to practice their supercharged leadership skills outside of their workplace with one of the firm’s many charity partners towards the end of their training. CAPE also provides 1-2-1 coaching, leadership team development and bespoke training focused on helping people thrive at work. “70% of how engaged and happy you are at work is down to your relationship with your immediate manager (according to Gallup 2020),” explains Lynsey Kitching, one half of the dynamic duo that runs CAPE. “Yet managing people is possibly one of the most challenging aspects of work. Less than half of all managers receive training, which drops a quarter if you work in an SME. No wonder many managers underperform in their roles… or feel overwhelmed.” As former managers with more than 15 years’ worth of experience coaching other managers, Lynsey and her business partner, Naomi, knew that current management training wasn’t accessible for most, wasn’t focused on the right content to be effective, or delivered in a way that was impactful as a learning experience. So, they decided to do something about it! In the summer of 2020, Naomi and Lynsey undertook their own primary research by interviewing more than 30 managers across different sectors, different industries and different sized businesses. An eyeopening account into the feelings, facts and impact that managing people had on the interviewees was found. From this, a programme that focuses on supporting people managers was born – CAPE. “We built a programme that is at an accessible price point for SMEs and charities and is also accessible from a time commitment perspective,” elaborates Lynsey. “It provides an experiential learning experience focused on creating a community of managers who learn with, and from, each other, with a foundation centred on having better conversations and developing the human skills to build effective working relationships. The positive impact and feedback on the programme has been overwhelming!” More than ever, management development is critical to the success of organisations. CAPE sees that most large organisations still prioritise investment in this area but, as budgets become tight, the firm is strongly urging company leaders to keep focusing on developing their people. Particularly SMEs as they grow as, when people deliver, businesses deliver. In the recent UK Enterprise Awards, CAPE was bestowed with the title of Most Innovative People Management Training Organisation 2024 and, as expected, the ambitious ladies have big plans over the next five years to grow the brand even further. “We want to be running an increased number of open cohort programmes each year and thereby have increased the number of charity coaching sessions delivered too,” enthuses Lynsey. “We will also have increased the number of in-house people management programmes and leadership team development projects. “We would like our reach to be extended to us supporting over 2,500 managers and leaders within the next five years.” Contact Details Contact: Lynsey Kitching Company: CAPE Coaching & Development Ltd Web Address: https://wearyourcape.co.uk/
