UK Enterprise Awards 2025

SME News UK Enterprise Awards 2025/ 88 Best Workplace Stress & Resilience Coach 2025: Kelly Swingler Through her eponymous business, Kelly Swingler Ltd, Kelly Swingler is simultaneously raising awareness of burnout and forever changing the world of work. It is Kelly’s aim to train every leader and coach to recognise that success should never come at the cost of their own health, integrity, or life. By daring to imagine a society where it is no longer normal to wear burnout as a badge of honour, Kelly is putting an end to excuses, exhaustion, and burnout. We had the pleasure of speaking with Kelly to learn more. “I’m Kelly. On paper I had it all – the success, the status, and the salary. But I hadn’t realised just how much toxic work environments were stealing my brightness, my health, and my happiness. My first burnout made me seriously ill and my second almost killed me. Now, I’m on a mission to ensure that nobody else has to jeopardise their life for their career.” For Kelly Swingler, the ‘Burnoutologist’, leaders leading without sacrificing themselves and coaches coaching effectively to make people realise success is measured through impact and not exhaustion is not simply a trend or a goal. It is the future. Everything she does at Kelly Swingler Ltd is designed to permanently banish burnout, something Kelly is able to offer by leveraging both her personal experiences and a complex understanding of the different ways burnout affects people at every level of a business. Kelly explained: “Unlike many others in our field, we have a unique skillset and knowledge. We understand the psychology, neuroscience, neurology, and physiology behind burnout. We understand how burnout impacts people on an emotional, mental, and physical level and what causes burnout in the workplace.” Thus, whether she is training in the Burnout Academy she created to help her fellow coaches manage burnout, coaching leaders on a one-to-one basis, running a masterclass for the alumni of the Burnout Academy, or delivering a keynote speech in front of thousands of people, Kelly is working towards a dual commitment of promoting burnout awareness and nurturing burnout prevention. Kelly’s talks and training are highly recommended, as are her books, including Mind the Gap: A Story of Burnout, Breakthrough and Beyond. So as to ensure she remains as up to date as possible, Kelly is always learning and studying, a process she employs to make sure her clients get as much out of the resources she has made available to them as possible. Kelly’s commitment to this area has seen her work recognised as leading the charge on a global scale, seen through the Burnout Academy training more than 100 people from 12 countries in its first six months alone. In a world where burnout is increasing rapidly, a greater number of employees than ever are leaving workplaces, and organisations are struggling to both create income and retain clients, the services Kelly is delivering are becoming increasingly important. Today, Kelly works closely with people both in and out of the UK, educating them on the potentially detrimental impacts of burnout on their health and workplaces in the long run. Kelly told us: “Most companies are pushing their people to burnout and then expecting a few ‘sprinkles’ of wellbeing to make a difference. Leaders need to be investing in creating healthy workplaces for their people, which, in turn, will increase performance and profit, instead of trying to improve performance by pushing people harder and then wondering why nothing is improving.” To offer even better support in this environment, Kelly is doubling down on the Burnout Academy, training more coaches and leaders in burnout awareness before helping them to become Burnout Trainers and Master Burnout Coaches in their own right. Kelly and her team are also working on a new documentary project, Burnout Ends Here, which is a collection of stories from individuals who have suffered with burnout as well as insights delivered by experts working in the field. This project is the continuation of the work Kelly has been doing over the past few years as part of the Big Burnout Conversation, which itself reflects the commitment to promoting discourses around the subject that Kelly embodies every single day. Ultimately, there are few people as truly passionate about their work as Kelly Swingler, who has proven time and again to be a beacon of hope and support for those who have previously experienced burnout or are at risk of it.
