UK Enterprise Awards 2026 / 98 Best Casual Dining Venue 2026 – Staffordshire Despite being one of Staffordshire’s most beautiful cities, even Lichfield is not immune to the challenges that have plagued hospitality over the last few years. The city’s nightlife had long been dwindling, exacerbated by the pandemic and other such factors, until the Dirty Cow opened its doors just over 12 months ago. To say that the venue has redefined Lichfield’s social scene would be an understatement, and this spot, which is right in the heart of the city’s shopping area, is today a safe, vibrant, and exciting space for people of all ages to eat, drink, play, and enjoy great music and entertainment. When the team behind what is now the Dirty Cow took over this Market Street venue, which was originally a 17th-century coaching inn, they had a troubled and underperforming location on their hands. Investing £250,000 in interior design, staff, and menu creation across the location, the team were guided by their ambition to change the perceptions of both this space and Lichfield’s nightlife more broadly. The atmosphere they have built and the exceptional service they deliver has already seen them succeed on both accounts. For example, the Dirty Cow has grown to earn more than six times the previous weekly income of the venue, and it has even been recognised as the New Business of the Year 2025 in the local Beacon Awards. It has also received a five-star hygiene rating for the food served in its restaurant and secured high engagement with its customers, such as a 4.8/5 rating on TripAdvisor and nearly 3,000 followers on Instagram. More than just the numbers and the acclaim, the team here are particularly proud of the fact that the Dirty Cow is fully booked every Saturday, and that it boasts the busiest Friday and Saturday nights in Lichfield by some margin. Whilst it is more quiet on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, the atmosphere remains lively and friendly, with the venue being the ideal place to enjoy a few drinks and a game of interactive darts or shuffleboard. Then, of course, there is the food, for which the Dirty Cow has been recognised with this award. “We are the only venue in Lichfield that combines a full food, drink, and nightlife experience with technologically advanced, interactive games.” The casual dining experience offered by the Dirty Cow covers everything from a 90-minute bottomless brunch to small plates, sharers, wings, pizza, and burgers. Whether to pick at during a competitive game of interactive darts or for a sit-down meal with family and friends, the food here is incredibly tasty, not to mention reasonably priced. Highlights from its menu include the steak frites, the vegan meatless burger, and the incredibly popular dirty fries. All of these dishes can then be washed down with something from the Dirty Cow’s expansive drinks menu, which notably includes a wide range of classic, signature, and spritz cocktails. Outside of this, there is a great selection of wines and champagne, as well as all of your standard alcoholic and soft drinks, helping everyone to feel right at home. As a spokesperson for the Dirty Cow told us: “We have invested heavily in cocktail and menu creation, ensuring our food and drinks are as memorable as our atmosphere. Our new menus and seasonal promotions then help keep the experience fresh and engaging.” This is what it is all about for the team of 14 full-time staff behind the Dirty Cow: offering the people of Lichfield and the surrounding areas with a safe, busy, and desirable venue, all whilst boosting the appeal of Lichfield’s nightlife and helping it to become a real ‘destination’ once again. Looking ahead, there are expansion plans in the works over at the Dirty Cow, beginning with the first floor of its current venue and then perhaps into a second spot in the region over the next few years. Longer term, the goal is to position the Dirty Cow as a flagship brand for social dining and entertainment in Staffordshire, one with the potential to scale into multiple locations without sacrificing its values of quality, safety, and community. Ultimately, the Dirty Cow could not be more proud of its location at the heart of Lichfield’s social scene, and we are delighted to celebrate its tremendous accomplishments so early on in its journey by naming it the Best Casual Dining Venue 2026 – Staffordshire in our UK Enterprise Awards 2026.
