SME News is proud to announce the UK Finance Awards 2024! For the sixth year running we return to honour the achievements of the top small-to-medium sized enterprises in the UK’s thriving financial services sector. It is well known that the UK is a global financial powerhouse. It is the world’s second-largest exporter of financial services and UK trade surplus in financial and related professional services exceeds £92bn. Additionally, the UK accounts for 38% of global foreign-exchange turnover and hosts around 170 foreign banks in London. These are just a few elements which together contribute to the UK’s status as a major global financial hub. Despite these strengths, however, UK SMEs in the financial services industry have encountered several challenges resulting from a tough macroeconomic environment marked by sluggish growth and high interest rates. There is also a need for financial services firms to enhance digital capabilities, leveraging new technologies such as artificial intelligence, whilst simultaneously strengthening cyber resilience. Alongside these impediments, firms are faced with tackling the evolving compliance pressures of a post-Brexit environment, managing the emergence of FCA regulations such as Consumer Duty and the anti-greenwashing rule. The UK Finance Awards 2024 will highlight those who rise to these challenges, achieving success regardless of what difficulties are presented. As has been shown in the past, the UK financial services sector often sees obstacles as opportunities, and SME News wishes to celebrate those who exhibit this kind of resilience.
