Welsh Enterprise Awards 2020

8 | Welsh Enterprise Awards 2020 Founded in 2003, Oakwood Brain Injury Case Management (OBICM) was established to provide brain injury case management services to clients across Wales. Having recently found success in the Welsh Enterprise Awards 2020, we got in touch with Carol Roberts to cast a light on the extraordinary service the team at OBICM effortlessly provides. Situated in Carmarthen, OBICM was one of the first companies to recognise the need for brain injury services in Wales. Succeeding with other brain injury professionals, the firm has made headway, developing a growing support network for brain injury survivors and their families. Going into further detail, Carol highlights the remarkable work the firm provides on a daily basis. “Working closely with solicitors and insurers, we provide a professional and bespoke specialist case management service to a wide range of adults, young people and children with complex cognitive, physical, polytrauma, psychological and behavioural difficulties resulting from acquired and traumatic brain injuries. Naturally, we recognise that a brain injury goes beyond affecting the individual concerned, it also has a detrimental impact on their families and wider circle of friends. With our core values based on delivering a person centred and goal-orientated approach to the care and rehabilitation needs of our clients, we focus on maximising each client’s independence and reaching their potential.” To distinguish itself from some of its competitors, the firm has a rather unique selling point to offer its clients as Carol explains further. “Through our flexible, pro-active, and responsive service, we can adopt a personalised approach to the unique challenges, care and rehabilitation needs of each client. Working closely with the families of our clients, we are able to provide them with all the support, guidance, and education they need. Priding ourselves on being empathic and our ability to listen to the needs, fears, and concerns of each individual client, this allows us to build lasting and trusting relationships. Naturally, this has resulted in us retaining clients for the long term and to see them flourish and develop feels extremely rewarding.” Leading Providers of Brain Injury Case Management 2020 Regarding the internal culture in place, much of the company’s success can be attributed to the commitment of its team members, which Carol is keen to highlight. “Nothing at OBICM should be impossible. If at first something doesn’t work for the individual client, Oct20549 then it provides an opportunity for the team to look at alternative ways. By supporting our team and encouraging further development, we often come up with the solutions our clients demand.” The outbreak of COVID-19 has increased the need for brain injury care and rehabilitation services across the UK, and as Carol points out these are extremely busy times for the firm. “Due to the impact of the pandemic, the added detrimental effect on people’s physical health, mental health, overall wellbeing and other needs has been huge. So, as you might expect this has increased demand, and now we are busier than ever striving to provide innovative approaches to the support, care and rehabilitation needs of our clients.” Bringing the interview to a close, Carol reflects on the benefits of the firm’s location before outlining some of the exciting plans which lie ahead for 2021 and beyond. “It was always OBICM’s goal to provide a service based in Wales. In doing so, this has encouraged other services to be developed and to bring services to Wales that were previously not available, particularly to west Wales. “Moving forward, as a result of what we have learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has affirmed our belief that there should be no restrictions or limitations to the number of different ways you are able to provide support to clients.” Company: Oakwood Brain Injury Case Management Contact: Carol Roberts Website: www.obicm.co.uk
