Welsh Enterprise Awards 2023

Having been made redundant from her previous job as a HR manager at Sainsburys, Jackie identified a gap in the local market for luxury dog accommodation and was inspired to convert a redundant barn on her farmyard into kennels. She and her husband, Rich, personally built the kennels to meet the highest of specifications. Jackie and Rich decided to name their new business ‘Jessie's Dog Hotel’ in honour of their dog, Jessie, who sadly lost a battle with cancer in 2016 at the age of 14. She was a beautiful and clever collie who entered the couple’s lives and truly changed everything. While she had some serious health conditions, her tail was always wagging, and she was always playing ball. Today, Jessie’s Dog Hotel is licensed by the Flintshire County Council to accommodate a maximum of 36 dogs. Its converted barn is equipped with 16 rooms, each with its own sleeping, leisure, and outdoor and indoor exercise areas. The kennels are set on a working farm that serves as home to a prime beef herd as well as many dogs, cats, chickens, and a rescue pig named Mr Grump. Located in Carmel, within a half an hour’s drive from Chester, Jessie’s Dog Hotel is ideally situated to serve the areas of Holywell, Flint, Mold, and any surrounding villages. It is also close to the A55 main route, making it easy for owners to drop off their dogs on their way to the Manchester and Liverpool airports or when travelling into North Wales for a countryside getaway. Over the years, Jessie’s Dog Hotel has built itself a loyal base of customers who come from everywhere from Manchester through to Llandudno, including one regular who lives in the Orkney Islands. Many of these customers have been with the company since the very beginning. Jackie and Rich recognise that their customers have an important decision to make when it comes to choosing the right boarding kennels for their dogs. As animal lovers, the pair understand how much dogs mean to their owners. For this reason, they want their customers to know that their dog will be completely safe, secure, and happy throughout their stay at Jessie’s Dog Hotel. With years of experience in animal care, working with animals of all shapes and sizes, they are well-equipped to provide quality care to customers’ dogs. On top of this, they are both qualified in Canine First Aid, and Jackie has earned a Level 3 Diploma in Kennel and Cattery Management. Jessie’s Dog Hotel sets itself apart through its high-quality accommodation, unparalleled standard of animal care, and the personal services it can offer. As a small family business with a team that consists only of Jackie, Rich, and another team member, Laura, the company is able to deliver exceptional customer service and provide the dogs with lots of outdoor exercise time. There is simply no other dog boarding service in the area that compares to Jessie’s Dog Hotel. For this reason, it is no surprise that Jessie’s Dog Hotel has been named Best Small Luxury Dog Boarding Kennels, North East Wales, in the Welsh Enterprise Awards 2023. Despite the ongoing cost of living crisis, the kennels are fully booked for the rest of this year and most of next year. As they look towards a bright future, Jackie and Rich strive to keep delivering the very best standard of care and accommodation to their dog guests.
