Historic public House, The Vaults y Fenni (The Vaults), lies at the very heart of Abergavenny, situated at the rear of the market hall, and occupying a prime location for all of the town’s local events. Offering a safe, relaxed environment for customers, the family pub is a thriving community hub, providing a wide variety of quality food and lively entertainment. The owners, Tom and Amanda Alway, took on the pub in September 2024. It was formerly the Greyhound Vaults (hence the name) however the new name is accompanied with a new logo and signs, along with a complete refurbishment. Whilst it may be a historic pub, with many original features having being kept, it is a bright and airy space that is perfect for enjoying a bite to eat, or relaxing with family and friends. As a family-run business, customer service at The Vaults is of the utmost importance and Amanda and Tom have been selective to ensure that all staff are knowledgeable, friendly and go above and beyond to make each and every customer feel welcome and valued. Each staff member is fully trained as a barista too, thus enabling them to create amazing hand-crafted coffees for those simply looking for a warm beverage, something which sets it aside from competitors. But this isn’t its only stand-out selling point… Recently, cost of living has become a major concern for the whole country and, along with government uncertainty and global conflicts, the hospitality industry has been hit hard and suffered severely as a result. Amanda has found that the days of going out 3-4 times a week are declining, with customers limiting their outings to once or maybe twice a week at most. However, when they do venture out, the majority of people want something different and a little bit special. This is where The Vaults really excels. “Coming to our pub gives our customers something extra,” she tells us. “We are extremely competitively priced and we are different to our competitors - offering a wide range of food, drinks, music and entertainment (which we don't charge entry fees for). “We are unique in the fact that we offer multiply experiences throughout the week, such as breakfast, hand-crafted coffees and homecooked lunches,” Amanda elaborates. “We also feature a competitive yet fun quiz night, an evening of acoustic music, and poetry and verse at our troubadour Wednesdays.” But it is at the weekend that the pub really comes alive with a whole host of entertainment, such as live bands, music and dancing (with anything from country, blues, pop covers and singer/songwriter events. “We really have every single music taste covered,” laughs Amanda. “Plus, we have a new tree house garden which is totally unique to the area, offering al fresco dining and boasting a fully stocked outdoor bar.” For its hard work and stand-out offering, the pub recently gained notoriety in the Welsh Enterprise Awards, having being named Best Family Pub & Restaurant 2025 - South Wales, plus receiving the Excellence Award in Live Music Entertainment 2025. Now, Amanda and the team have their sights firmly set on the festive season and are gearing up for what looks to be a bright and lucrative Christmas. Beyond this, The Vaults has invested lots of time and effort securing the best live entertainment and new music for 2026, with a host of new events and ideas always at the forefront to continue to delight and engage customers.
