LED lighting has become more and more common in recent years. The time of halogen lamps is definitely behind us and that’s a good thing because halogen lamps were energy-unfriendly and of poor quality. LED lighting, on the other hand, has eliminated all those disadvantages. Below we list 5 reasons why companies should now switch to LED lighting.
LED lighting is durable
Where the average lifespan of a halogen lamp used to be about 1000 to 2000 burning hours, this is about 10 to 15 times longer with LED lamps. The reason for this is that halogen lamps used a filament. LED lighting uses a chip that converts the power into light much more efficiently. As a result, much less heat is released. Moreover, LED lighting does not contain any toxic elements such as mercury. This used to be the case with fluorescent lamps and gas discharge lamps. This mercury was released in the form of droplets that gradually evaporated at room temperature so that there was a chance that it could be inhaled.
LED lighting is positive for employee productivity
The influence of LED lighting on the performance and motivation of employees cannot be underestimated. Thus, it stimulates the brain and improves focus. Working in a well-lit space with LED lighting, especially in an industrial environment, provides improved productivity, better energy and a positive state of mind. Numerous studies have proven this.
LED lighting is of high quality
LED bulbs provide brighter and more natural light than traditional bulbs. With LED lamps you can also choose between different color temperatures (warm white, normal white, cold white, RGB and other variations). In the past, the color reproduction (CRI index) was on the low side, so that the warm white color sometimes turned green. This is certainly no longer the case today. Most LED lamps have a CRI index of more than 80 Ra, which is very good. As a result, the light colors are reproduced faithfully.
LED lighting is very cheap to use
The most obvious thing about LED lighting is that it is very cheap. When you switch from halogen lighting to LED lighting, you save an average of 6/7 of your total consumption. After all, LED lighting only consumes 1/7 compared to halogen. This is a huge saving. For example, if you calculate that a halogen lamp of 50W consumes 0.05 kWh per hour x 8 hours/day x an average of 300 days per year, you arrive at 120 kWh per year that consumes only 1 halogen lamp. If you take the average price per Kwh today, you will arrive at € 0.3/Kwh. 1 halogen lamp of 50W will therefore cost you € 0.3 x 120 Kwh = € 40/year. For a LED lamp with the same power, this is 7W or 0.007Kwh per hour x8h/day x an average of 300 days = 16.8Kwh per year or € 5.04/year. So for 1 single lamp you already have a saving of € 43.96! For gas discharge lamps and fluorescent lamps, the saving is slightly less, but still significant. An LED lamp consumes only 1/3 of a gas discharge lamp or a fluorescent lamp.
There are often subsidies for LED lighting
When you replace your lighting with LED lighting in an industrial environment, you can receive subsidies for this in some cases. After all, Europe is working on climate neutrality and that can also be achieved through LED lighting. The luminaires you install must meet certain requirements (often ENEC). Inquire about this at the store where you buy.
