All four of its Ofsted-registered homes stand out because of their therapeutic and child-centred approach to care. Each location sees personalised support delivered that is tailored to the individual needs of the child, regardless of what their emotional or behavioural needs may look like. For instance, Apple Tree accommodates children and young people between the ages of 6 and 19 with complex and additional needs, from ADHD and ASD to GDD and other such processing difficulties. Birch Tree, on the other hand, is a therapeutic EBD home providing care for up to three young people. Its care team specialise in supporting young people at risk of sexual or criminal exploitation, as well as younger children who have been neglected. Cherry Tree then caters to young people from 7 to 17 who have experienced trauma-based abuse, with the team here trained in trauma-informed practice and specialising in supporting individuals with complex emotional and behavioural needs. Finally, Dewberry House is a five-bedroom house providing residential care for young people with behavioural and emotional difficulties. Although they are admitted for their behaviour, these young people often have learning difficulties or other underlying issues the team look to manage. As touched on above, every one of these homes is managed by a team of dedicated and qualified specialists, and two of them have been even rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted thanks in part to these members of staff. The therapists across these locations use PACE (playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, empathy), a concept developed by a leading clinical psychologist specialising in childhood trauma, to help their children feel safe and understood. The strengths of their approach can be seen through an exciting milestone reached by Orchard just last year, when the first young person to live in the company’s first home (Apple Tree) turned 18 and moved into his own flat. He is doing brilliantly living independently, a testament to the team behind Apple Tree and the holistic support they provide. Stories like this are the reason why Orchard does what it does, and has for almost a decade now. Consistently achieving the best outcomes for every child in its care is not always easy, and this is why Orchard places a great deal of emphasis on staff retention and longevity, both of which are rare in this industry. From paying close attention to the wellbeing of employees to offering 1:1 coaching sessions to boost confidence and motivation, everything the company does is grounded in its ambition to achieve these life-changing outcomes for young people. This includes its growth, something the company has been prioritising over the last twelve months and which continue to shape its future.
