Too many people today purchase these puppies without considering the long-term commitment they are taking on, leaving countless Dobermanns in need of rehoming through no fault of their own. Operating across the UK, Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK is working tirelessly to help an increasing number of Dobermanns in need of new homes. We heard more below from Health and Wellbeing Trustee Paula Teal, as Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK is named in the Midlands Enterprise Awards 2026. Since its inception in 2017, Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK has been on a mission to provide all Dobermanns in need with the opportunity to live a safe, secure, and fulfilled life. The charity, registered 1172592, operates throughout the UK, rooted very strongly to the community of its hometown Lincoln. It also provides full Rescue Back Up for former West Country Dobermann Rescue dogs, following the centre’s closure in 2023. As a volunteer-led rescue, the Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK team donate their time, effort, and expertise to raising muchneeded funds, promoting the rescue’s mission, and attending events. The independent charity does not receive any core funding and therefore relies solely on the support and generosity of its community, whose donations and efforts contribute directly to the safety, food, transport, veterinary care, and rehabilitation of countless Dobermanns. Over the last decade, Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK has seen significant evolution. The charity’s flexibility has enabled the team to help a constant stream of Dobermanns in need of new homes. The team has developed meticulous systems to ensure that every dog is placed in the best possible home: each potential adopter is homechecked by a collaborating charity with homecheckers located throughout the UK. Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK provides every dog with full Rescue Back Up for life. Every Dobermann entering Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK’s care is assessed prior to arriving at the rescue. The only exception to this rule is in the case of a dire emergency, such as a pound dog reaching the end of their time on the euthanasia list. The rescue’s Charity Governing Document decrees that the team can only accept dogs from UK dog pounds or homes and can only place dogs with adopters within the UK mainland. While Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK cannot import dogs, its team is willing to rehome dogs that have already been imported. “We are known for our thoroughness, and we make no apologies for the rigorous manner in which we conduct our due diligence,” Paula told us. “This gives the family surrendering their dog complete confidence in the safety of their future and also ensures that our adopters’ needs are met at the initial Meet and Greet with a potential match, and that there is ongoing support for them at all times. This work has become more important than ever, as Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK witnesses an ever-increasing number of Dobermanns requiring new homes. Whilst a number of these cases can be attributed to relationship breakdowns, the loss of a home, or other changing household circumstances, there has been a growing number of cases caused by a lack of understanding about the Dobermann breed and its needs. “When they are pups, they are very cute and their ‘naughtiness’ can be deemed amusing,” Paula explained. “When they weigh 40 kilos, their naughtiness is unacceptable behaviour and has the potential to be dangerous. This is not the fault of the dog, but rather the fault of the owner for not setting their pup up for success. These Dobies come into rescue with a lot of learned behaviours which we have to help them ‘unlearn’. This is a huge challenge for a small rescue like Lincs.” It may be a large challenge, but it is one that the Lincs Dobermann Rescue UK team are prepared to tackle head-on.
