While much of the world’s operations have shifted to online services, one arduous process has remained largely unchanged: the daunting task of sifting through the assets left behind by a loved one, trying to find vital documentation and information in the wake of their passing. This is already an immensely difficult time, and a lack of organisation adds further unnecessary complexities. After 2 years of a direct to consumer offering it now offers it’s platform fully branded for solicitors and their clients. We took a closer look at this standout solution below, following its recent recognition in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025. Best LegalTech Start-Up 2025 Executor Services, trading as My Executor Box, is a leading Glasgow-based company on a mission to solve the ongoing challenge that countless bereaved families are left to handle. In 2022, the UK government released figures stating that the Dormant Banks and Building Society Act had seized £1.6 billion from dormant bank and building society accounts since 2008. Building on to the success of this scheme, the government extended the range of assets that could be seized under The Dormant Assets Scheme legislation to include pensions, property, shares, investments and insurance funds. If nothing else proves there are substantial assets lost on death this scheme clearly identifies lost assets not to mention the billions of pounds collected as orphan client’s funds held by insurance companies. Alan Wardrop founded Executor Services in 2023 as a result of his experience when creating financial services businesses within solicitor firms during his 40 year career in financial services. With the company’s establishment, he aims to modernise estate planning in the UK and beyond to ensure that lifesavings are not being lost through poor administration caused by a modern world moving to a paperless society. This solution took the form of My Executor Box, a secure online estate planning platform designed to make the planning process quicker, easier, and more efficient for solicitors, professional advisors, and their clients. With a simple, safe, and easy-to-use platform, My Executor Box allows clients to manage and store a variety of important information in a secure place. Upon opening their account, users can record assets, manage executors, record liabilities, upload documents, calculate their net worth, and leave messages and stories behind for their loved ones to watch after their death. From there, clients can invite up to five executors and / or family members and friends to hold immediate access or access only after death, ensuring that beneficiaries receive their inheritance with optimal speed and precision while respecting an individual’s privacy if desired. It can also be adapted for use by Powers of Attorney which is being developed currently. Through regular security monitoring, updates, and assessments, My Executor Box mitigates potential risks and maintains a bank level secure environment for its users. The platform utilises robust technologies and best practices, including Google Cloud to provide a secure execution environment for its backend operations; Firebase, for its granular access control and extensive security measures and two factor authorisation for login. What’s more, HTTPS encryption is used to secure communication, and the company leverages RESTful architecture to ensure secure data exchanges. A passion for exceptional service lies at the heart of My Executor Box and has shaped the company’s unrivalled commitment to clientcentricity since its inception. The company aims to continue expanding and enhancing its services in alignment with growing client demand, striving to establish itself as the go-to company for estate planning in the UK and beyond. It now offers white labelled fully branded executor box platforms for solicitor firms and their clients giving regular touch points for solicitors to engage with their clients. This commitment has earned Executor Services, and My Executor Box, recognition as Best LegalTech Start-Up 2025 – an accolade underpinned by a number of glowing testimonials that can be found on the company’s website. One client wrote: “My husband has recently suffered serious ill health and at one point, we thought we were going to lose him. Thankfully, he is now on the road to recovery. Kenny has always been the financial person in our relationship, and I wouldn’t know where to begin if things had gone wrong. At the very least, My Executor Box gives me the assurance I would know where our money is.” James Craig of Glasgow solicitors firm Archibald Sharp wrote: “My Executor Box is an innovation that is overdue in our modern online world. It will really help clients, executors, and solicitors deliver a quicker, more efficient executry service when required.” Already an award winning company as Security Platform of the Year 2025 by Corporate Livewires Innovation and Excellence Awards and an approved product provider by Law Society of Scotland, this Scottish Enterprise Best LegalTech start up demonstrates this company is one to watch for the future. Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025/ 6 For athletes, the ability to tell their stories is more important now than ever. Sharing their journeys, challenges, and triumphs helps to inspire others, preserves history, and contributes to a broader narrative of their sport, culture, and legacy. Moyo Sports plays a vital supporting role in this process, providing trusted management services that allow athletes to focus on performance while their stories resonate with the world. We spoke with Founding Director Malcolm Anderson to learn more, as Moyo Sports is named in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025. For more than a decade, Moyo Sports has provided comprehensive management services that empower athletes to achieve their sporting goals and maximise their earning potential. With a base in Edinburgh and operations worldwide, the ambitious, athlete-centred sports agency works with a select number of athletes, offering a personal yet professional approach to athlete representation. Standing at the forefront of international track and road running, Moyo Sports’ athletes have been selected to compete at the Olympic Games, as well as the World, European, and African Championships. Moyo Sports offers asuite of services designed to support its athletes. Central to its offerings is competition scheduling and negotiation, built on fifteen years of trusted relationships with track meeting directors and road race organisers worldwide, including Diamond League, Continental Tour events, World Marathon Majors, and World Athletics marathon label events. This service is complemented by the agency optimising its athletes’ earnings through sponsorship, working closely with the UK, European, and international marketing departments of all major shoe brands to foster lucrative opportunities. Alongside this, the agency invests in media and brand development, ensuring athletes’ diverse stories are promoted to wider audiences. Opportunities are sourced through TV, radio, print, and online publications, while the agency increasingly produces its own content for distribution across social media platforms. Practical support is equally prioritised, from finance and accounting services to travel and accommodation management through a trusted travel agent. Visa, insurance, and medical assistance are also provided, with service centres in Addis Ababa and Nairobi facilitating embassy processes, vaccination certificates, and specialist visas. These services are delivered to a range of clients, including current World 800m champion Lilian Odira from Kenya; Olympic 1500m silver medallist, World Champion, and five-time Diamond League winner Timothy Cheruiyot from Kenya; Scottish Marathon record holder and double Olympian Callum Hawkins; and up-and-coming British star Will Barnicoat, already a three-time European Cross Country gold medallist and double bronze medallist in the 5000m at the European U23 Championships. The Moyo Sports marathoners from Ethiopia have achieved wins and podium finishes globally, in cities such as Berlin, Tokyo, Boston, Paris, Toronto, Seoul, Los Angeles, Ottawa, Osaka, Barcelona, Bejing Houston, Buenos Aires, and even Loch Ness. Its athletes have seen significant results in the World Marathon Majors – the most prominent and competitive races on the circuit – with Mestawut Fikir placing second in Berlin in 2024, Tsegaye Getachew finishing third in Tokyo in 2023, and Jemal Yimer taking third in Boston in 2021. Tsegaye, a 2-time Amsterdam marathon winner, closes his 2025 season ranked 6th in the World Athletics rankings. Moyo Sports is headed by Founding Director Malcolm Anderson, an authorised athlete representative accredited by World Athletics and a member of the Association of Athletics Managers (AAM). Malcolm was first introduced to international athletics as an 18-year-old whilst on his gap year in the Kenyan Highlands and has since grown to serve as one of the few World Athletics authorised agents with world-class British, European and East African athletics talent. “The founding vision of Moyo Sports back in 2012 was about developing a sports management environment that puts the athlete at the centre, seeking a semblance of respect, trust, and a personable culture,” he told us. “Values of integrity, passion, and transparency define us. The word Moyo is a Swahili word for ‘heart’, showing that we have passion, a drive for success, and a heart for something.; we’re not just in it for the short-term, but for the long haul.” Jemal Yimer, Ethiopia’s former half marathon national record holder, has been with the agency since 2016. Timothy Cheruiyot has been with the agency for 10 years when he first signed with Malcolm in 2015. Marathoner Tsedat Ayana since 2014, where he first ran abroad and won the Great Edinburgh 10 miles race. Long haul means building careers for the whole of an athlete’s professional cycle. Hailing from Edinburgh, establishing the agency in the city was a natural choice for Malcolm. Though Moyo Sports has roots in Scotland, the agency operates in all its athletes’ home countries, with Malcolm’s World Athletics licence enabling him to work with any nationality in the world. This international scope was underlined when the agency hosted Yasuhito Hirota, CEO and Chairman of ASICS, Most Trusted Sports Management Agency 2025 – Edinburgh CEO of Asics and his shoe development team , June 2025 with our marathon athletes.
and his shoe development team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in June 2025. In today’s global sports industry, standing out depends as much on engagement as it does on competition results. Moyo Sports recognises that performance alone is not enough in a crowded marketplace and works closely with shoe sponsors to produce video and marketing content that highlights the journeys, personalities, and achievements of its athletes. Storytelling has become a major growth area for the future, offering athletes a way to connect with fans, sponsors, and the wider running community on a more personal level. This focus on narrative is matched by an awareness of global market trends. Road running in China, for example, has experienced exponential growth, with events such as the Nanjing Marathon offering prize money that triples the rewards of established races like Berlin. Maintaining relevance is essential in this digital age, and Moyo Sports invests in building its athletes’ presence across platforms including Instagram, TikTok, X, and a dedicated Facebook fan page. Ultimately, Moyo Sports combines storytelling, digital engagement, and market insight in a way that positions its clients at the very forefront of their field. The agency has established itself as an essential partner to countless athletes around the world, providing a blend of professional and practical solutions that allow athletes to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape. As it looks to the future, Moyo Sports intends to remain a key player in the global sporting industry, as Malcolm shared: “Always, we seek to recruit the very best in our professional world. This will not change.” On the track, this will take the form of developing future talent and attending major championships, of which the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Birmingham European Athletics Championships will be key. The calendar continues to grow, with 2027 designated as a World Championships year and the LA Olympics arriving in 2028, promising a sustained series of major international events. “In Ethiopia, we have recently renewed a new multi-year partnership with our primary sponsor Asics, through to the Los Angeles Olympics,” added Malcolm, “part of which will be the construction of a state-of-theart High-Performance Athletics Centre in Addis Ababa. In road running, the World Marathon Majors – London, Tokyo, Boston, New York, Berlin, and Chicago – together with other iconic city marathons will also be a key focus, as these are where Asics gains maximum exposure.” From new talent acquisitions to strengthened partnerships, a period of continuous growth is on the horizon for Moyo Sports. In just over a decade, the agency has demonstrated itself as an invaluable asset to the industry, earning well-deserved recognition as Edinburgh’s Most Trusted Sports Management Agency 2025. With a proven track record and a passion for its field, Moyo Sports is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of track and road running for years to come. Originally founded in 2010 under the name Process Safety Solutions, PSS was established in response to the industries’ need for local and agile technical experts. At the time, it specialised in the support, maintenance and modifications of safety instrument systems for the process control sector. Via partnerships with OEMs and complementary system integrators, PSS can provide competitive offerings on new system builds, upgrades, modifications, maintenance, support, and spares and repairs. PSS is a Companion Company of the Institute of Measurement and Control and is actively involved within all levels of the institute, with staff volunteering at board and local levels, the Functional Safety and Cyber Security Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Women in Measurement, Automation & Control (WIMAC) group. Many of the organisation’s engineers are also members of the Institute of Measurement and Control, which is PSS’s preferred route for Professional Registration. “Through continual improvement, our bespoke management systems, and a focus on the development of the next generation of systems engineers, PSS delivers the highest standard of systems engineering.” Being based in Scotland allows PSS to readily provide local support to its clients. With more and more companies relying on centralised engineering hubs, PSS is proud to have a local presence, which allows it to provide consistent client representatives, familiar faces, plus gives the firm the ability to have meetings face-to-face. Several core values underpin the overall company ethos at PSS, helping to form and shape its stand-out strategy. These centre around: Integrity: a duty to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, to act with honesty and integrity and to work to regulations and the requirements of international standards. Improvement: continual improvement of bespoke quality, functional safety, environmental and cyber security management systems, led by the leadership team, staff and customers, means PSS always delivers the best it can. Innovation: through an internal R&D team and its product partners, the firm is always poised to develop, assess and utilise new and emerging technologies and engineering practices. Inspiration: PSS is focused on the development of the next generation of systems engineers through training and mentoring, the dedicated engineering lead leadership team, and strategic partnerships with the Institute of Measurement and Control, as well as local universities. Interaction: working closely with clients to provide the best service possible through consistent client representatives and subject matter experts on client systems and sites. Inclusion: actively creating a workforce where employees from a variety of diverse backgrounds are represented, feel valued and respected. These values help PSS to differentiate from competitors, however there is another unique selling point which the company possesses, which make it stand tall above others in the industry. “Being product independent allows us to offer the best fit solution to our customers’ problems,” Myles Gowen, the firm’s OT Systems Manager, tells us. “Through continual improvement, our bespoke management systems, and a focus on the development of the next generation of systems engineers, PSS delivers the highest standard of systems engineering.” As an experienced Chartered Engineer and Engineering Manager, with more than 15 years’ worth of hands-on experience across the industrial automation and energy sectors, Myles specialises in the design, delivery, and management of Safety and Control Systems, combining deep technical knowledge with proven leadership in Functional Safety, OT Cyber Security, Project Management, and Quality Management. Whilst aligning with the firm’s core values, Myles also echoes PSS’s vision: of being committed to supporting the Energy Transition process and the global pursuit of Net Zero. Looking to the future, Myles and the team at PSS are now embracing the technology of tomorrow – whatever obstacles these may throw in its way, as Myles comments: “With the emergence of new and renewable energies, we are on our journey to diversify our industry coverage, utilising our recognised engineering skill sets to tackle the new and exciting challenges that these new industries will bring with them!” Contact: Myles Gowen Company: PSS Web Address: www.pssuk.co.uk and technologies will enable PSS to better support both existing and new customers in their Energy Transition projects. “We are committed to helping protect our clients’ assets and systems from potential cyber-attacks.” Recent emerging trends within the industry that Myles has noticed include a significant drive for enhanced cyber security for industrial automation systems across all industries. With the publication of IEC 62443, OG 86 and NIS directives, there are now international and local regulatory requirements to ensure that our critical infrastructure is protected from cyber-attacks, which in a worst-case scenario can impair safety critical systems and result in the loss of life Myles tells us that, with an increasing number of well-publicised cyber-attacks reported in 2025 (M&S, Coop, Jaguar/Landrover), the risks are now higher than ever. To counteract this threat, and ensure it can cope with any potential cyber security issues, PSS has obtained Cyber Essentials certification. This demonstrates that an organisation is protecting itself by implementing the most important cyber security controls. A team of experts review the scheme at regular intervals to ensure it stays effective in the ever-evolving threat landscape. With beautiful, panoramic views of Dunnydeer, the club fosters a friendly atmosphere for members to bring their guests and golfing visitors. The club celebrates a long history of golf in Insch and boasts a stunning 18-hole course for all golfing abilities. For its beautiful course and facilities, Insch Golf Club has received a Scottish Enterprise Award for this year’s Most Hospitable Golf Club. The original course was founded in 1906 around the foot of Dunnydeer Hill and became a part of the 47 courses established around the world that form the 1906 club. In 1943, the course was moved to its current location but was later requisitioned by the War Department as a grenade range. It was not until 1977 that a local committee came together to reintroduce a course to the village. A 9-hole course was created and subsequently extended to the full 18 in 1997. In 2003, the golf club committee went on to design and construct a modern clubhouse for the enjoyment of its members. The clubhouse was opened a year later by Paul Lawrie, a Scottish golf legend and past Open Champion. The club was honoured to host an hour-long coaching session with Paul for 80 budding junior club members as part of the celebrations. The clubhouse facility features a comfortable bar, dining facilities, changing rooms, and an entertainment area. With stunning views from the clubhouse, members and visitors can enjoy the charming scenery of the old course and Dunnydeer. The clubhouse is the perfect location for members to relax with a drink of their choice, boasting an excellent selection of whiskies and gins and witness beautiful sunset views. For golfers, the premises have separate male and female changing facilities with modern shower facilities. The club also has a fully equipped kitchen and talented staff who prepare and cook a delectable range of meals to delight and entice guests. It is a well-known fact with members and visitors that no one leaves hungry. “ People underestimate the time, dedication and attention to detail given by you and your staff at the club for your members and visitors at every event, every bit as good as the big players! fantastic” “Another fabulous day out again! Well done to golf club also for putting up with us all! It was an amazing day!” “Just wanted to thank you for a great day out and wonderful hospitality. Everyone commented on how welcoming and friendly you and your staff were and how good the food was! We’ll be back next year!” It is the mission of Insch Golf Club to provide its members and guests with a memorable experience when they visit. The club is passionate about its customer service and leaving a smile on the faces of all visitors to encourage their return. During the current challenging financial times, Insch Golf Club prides itself on consistently exceptional service and values word of mouth recommendations. The club is renowned in the area for the friendly and warm atmosphere its staff have created, and it aims to expand its reputation across Aberdeenshire. Jayne Farquhar, the Club Manager said “We are incredibly proud to have won these awards for the third year running, and it is all down to the many hours of hard work put in by of our wonderful team. No one fully understands the work that goes on behind the scenes , all the preparation for golfing and social events, along with the general day to day work required to have the club open. We owe it all to them that the club runs smoothly, ensuring our members and guests are well fed, watered, and entertained.” With the rising costs of utilities and wages, the future for any Scottish business is uncertain and this is no different for any Golf Club in the North East. Insch Golf Club aims to continue to work hard and retain its stellar reputation for years to come. EMRES Security & Care Solutions Ltd of North Lanarkshire has gone from strength-to-strength within the security and care industry. We find out more from Founder, Frank Dunsmore, as it celebrates success in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025. Best Home Security Solutions Provider 2025 - Central Belt Frank Dunsmore had been working in the security industry for 42 years when he decided to start his own company in 2011. Feeling that larger security installation companies’ pricing structures were somewhat out of reach for the average householder, Frank decided to bring the best technology to customers at excellent trade prices, without any markup at all and EMRES Security & Care Solutions Ltd (EMRES) was born! Frank partnered with TYCO JCI, the world's largest manufacturer and installer of security and fire products, as well as monitoring station, ACT Response. In 2012, he began working with Potential Living – a reputable care company in North Lanarkshire who assist individuals with disabilities and care needs in order to enable them to continue living at home and maintain their own tenancies. “As care technology seemed to be unsuitable for some individuals’ care needs overnight when they were on their own, we worked in partnership with Potential Living to develop very bespoke and cutting-edge technology that fulfilled the requirement on a case-by-case basis,” Frank explains further. “We merged security, fire and care technology all onto one platform that gave individuals the safest possible package as part of their care.” These care systems are monitored by both ACT Response and the Response On Call team - the overnight response staff that attend any activations, and EMRES covers the areas of central Scotland and as far up as Dundee and Monifieth in the council area of Angus. Frank’s overall aim was to ensure that everyone had access to the best of technology in the security market, at trade prices, to meet their individual needs. He adds: “In terms of security systems, everyone has the right to feel safe at home and if they don't feel safe there where would they feel safe.” From the outset, Frank has never wanted to grow as much as other companies have done, and he offers much more of a personal service to his clients, describing them as “more like friends.” He has even had to turn away work on a daily basis to prevent himself from getting too busy and not being able to give his full dedication to the clients that EMRES already has. To this end, Frank has a unique approach to winning new business, and doesn’t believe in ‘the hard sell.’ When a potential customer calls, Frank will attend and carry out a thorough risk and security assessment based on all of his experience. When he puts a price together, he will pass it to the customer and advise them that they won't hear from him again unless they contact him to proceed with the job. This has stood Frank in good stead over the years, and his business has grown year-on-year since its inception. One of the main trends emerging lately within the security industry is the influx of DIY and home-install security packages from companies charging inflated prices. Frank explains that the ordering responsibility is all down to the customer, who often doesn't really understand how the technology operates. “As some individuals conditions may be complex, we need to think outside the box to meet the challenge,” he states. “In some cases, we have built the actual technology to ensure the care overnight is seamless, which gives service users and their families complete peace of mind.” Recently, Frank and EMRES triumphed in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025 as the firm was named Best Home Security Solutions Provider 2025 - Central Belt. Now, things are looking rosy, with Frank currently assisting other similar security companies in England to replicate what he does in North Lanarkshire, including introducing them to emerging technology such as enuresis, epilepsy detection and bed absence. “Sharing our experience will only assist individuals to stay in their own home longer and give their families peace of mind.” Contact: Frank Dunsmore Company: EMRES Security & Care Solutions Ltd Web Address: www.emres.co.uk Roddy Thomson - Potential Living Managing Director, Laura Galloway - Potential Living Project Manager, Frank Dunsmore - Managing Director of EMRES Security & Care Solutions Ltd, Ian Quigley - Potential Living Head Of Care AIS-Oct25126

The firm offers two types of service to its clientele: a full management service provides local knowledge and expertise to deliver a tailored solution that is swift, easy and hasslefree; and a let only service, designed for landlords who wish to manage the property themselves, but are looking for support and services to find tenants. “We aim to let your property quickly and proficiently to the best suited tenant and provide reliable income by ensuring your property is occupied,” continues Caroline. “We have the capability to manage a range of types and sizes of properties throughout Aberdeen and the wider area - may it be a one bedroom flat or a five bedroom house.” Recently, in recognition of its stellar work, CW Property was successful in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025 and was crowned with the prestigious title of Best Bespoke Property Leasing & Management Firm 2025. Our warmest congratulations to Caroline and the entire team! Contact: Caroline Walker Company: Caroline Walker Property Leasing Ltd Web Address: www.cwpropertyleasing.com
Since its establishment in 2013, Perfect Clean has been delivering commercial and specialist cleaning services to a diverse range of clients across Scotland, from local authorities such as Fife Council and City of Edinburgh Council to healthcare facilities, educational campuses, transport operators, and industrial sites. Its services span everything from routine commercial cleaning to highly specialised work, including biohazard remediation, trauma cleaning, hoarder cleaning, TR19-BESA-certified kitchen cleaning, void property cleaning, and crime scene restoration. In a competitive market, Perfect Clean stands out for its dedication. The company often takes on jobs that others will not, particularly in challenging environments where safety, discretion, and technical expertise are non-negotiable. This is a difficult field of work, and so Perfect Clean has built a team of individuals who can navigate trauma and biohazard with responsibility, empathy, and an understanding that their services are often called for on someone else’s worst day. “Our mission is straightforward: to restore spaces to safety and restore confidence to the people who use them,” Stuart states. “Whether it’s a council flat ready for a new family, a hospital ward that needs clinical-grade sanitation, or a traumatised property owner facing an impossible cleanup, we step in when it matters most. Our core values revolve around respect, responsibility, and results.” This is complemented by adherence to high standards of safety and quality, always in alignment with the latest industry regulations. Perfect Clean invests heavily in staff training, continuously evolves its methods based on client feedback and emerging best practices, and maintains multiple industry certifications, including BICSc, BESA, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 27001, and Cyber Essentials. This dedication has enabled it to stay ahead of its peers, maintaining a position at the cutting edge of industry development. The company’s location in Edinburgh has also been instrumental to its sustained growth; Scotland’s public sector is progressive, collaborative, and willing to work with SMEs demonstrating capability and social value. As a result, Perfect Clean has formed strong relationships with councils across central Scotland – including Edinburgh, Falkirk, and a recent £8 million contract with Fife Council – which have provided it with a sturdy foundation for growth. Perfect Clean also services clients across the north of England, and is actively exploring opportunities in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, and the Highlands through its partnership with Langstane Housing Association and Highlands Residential. “The next logical step is strengthening our presence across the Central Belt and the north of England,” Mr. McRobb told us, “as well as expanding our trauma cleaning services, as operators continue to seek reliable, accredited partners.” Looking ahead, Perfect Clean is developing its transport cleaning services, working with rail and aviation clients who require rapidturnaround cleaning without compromising safety or passenger experience. As mentioned, the company will also focus on strengthening its trauma and biohazard cleaning capabilities through closer collaboration with the rail industry and local police forces, who need rapid and discreet response to sensitive incidents. The more distant future also promises significant avenues for growth; the company’s contract with Fife Council is a transformational opportunity running through 2027, with potential options for expansion. Perfect Clean has opened a new depot in Kirkcaldy to service this work and has committed to subcontracting locally in order to support SMEs throughout Fife. In the longer term, the company is exploring technology integration, focused on monitoring and validation systems that provide clients with objective proof of cleaning effectiveness, rather than just visual assurance. In just over a decade, Perfect Clean has successfully built an organisation that genuinely contributes to Scottish communities. The company’s work has been instrumental in helping families enter social housing faster, supporting vulnerable people through property remediation services, and ensuring public spaces meet the hygiene standards people deserve. For its substantial impact on communities across the country, Perfect Clean has been named the Industrial and Property Cleaning Company of the Year 2025. In recognition of this achievement, Stuart shared: “Winning awards like this, alongside securing our largest-ever contract, validates the hard work of more than 100 dedicated professionals, who show up every day to tackle difficult jobs with professionalism and care.” Contact: [email protected] Company: Perfect Clean Edinburgh Ltd Web Address: www.perfectcleanltd.co.uk Across the country, the cleaning industry is recognised as essential to safeguarding hygiene and health standards. We find out more from Conor Higgins as the firm celebrates a win in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025. Founded in 1983 by John Higgins JH Civil Engineering Ltd (JH Civil Engineering) has been a trusted provider of high-quality civil engineering services throughout the whole of Scotland for nearly four decades. Specialising in delivering essential services to infrastructure, public utilities, and local authorities across Scotland, JH Civil Engineering is known for its commitment to excellence and is dedicated to providing innovative and efficient infrastructure solutions. The firm’s main goal and mission is to improve local infrastructure whilst maintaining both a strong customer focused approach and high standards, in-line with its industry recognised ISO140001, ISO9001, LANTRA and Constructionline certifications. Likewise, JH Civil Engineering is committed to improving the efficiency and safety of its own sites having introduced an inhouse traffic management team within the last two years. “This addition has allowed us to fully internalise the traffic management used on our projects from the design phase through to implementation, a feature not available to the majority of our competitors,” Director Conor Higgins tells us, speaking about how the firm differentiates itself from others in the industry. “As a result, we can now implement traffic management on-site without delay and any necessary adjustments to plans can be done so promptly by our team.” Recent industry developments and emerging trends have had an impact on the firm, such as the increasing carbon reduction brought on from commitments to NetZero targets, however JH Civil Engineering has safeguarded its operations by subjecting its principal business activities to rigorous testing. Those aspects of the business having a significant impact on the environment are now incorporated within an environmental aspect register, and an Environmental Management System provides a guide for managing and controlling all operational activities to minimise their environmental impact. “We continue to measure the level of our environmental impact against the criterion of severity and likelihood of occurrence, with regard to pertinent local, national and international legislation,” Conor elaborates. “Having reviewed our internal operations, objectives and targets have been established for activities deemed to have significant environmental impact, with quarterly KPIs being established to measure and monitor performance against. These include: reduced energy use, CO2 emissions, and waste to landfill; increased recycling; and secondary use of materials” “Having reviewed our internal operations, objectives and targets have been established for activities deemed to have significant environmental impact, with quarterly KPI’s being established to measure and monitor performance against.” At JH Civil Engineering, large emphasis is placed on internal training which has allowed for strong staff retention numbers over the last four decades. At point of hire, all employee training, certifications and qualifications are logged on the internal quality management software which details the provider, date of renewal and employee development paths. This ensures that all of the staff who are employed are suitably trained for their allotted tasks and that their qualifications are up to date, and can be easily programmed in for necessary renewals and upskilling as required. Maintained by an internal auditor, staff training is reviewed regularly training courses organised well in advance of expiry. “We have increased the skills of our workforce through major investments in staff career development, which has directly increased our capabilities in resourcing multiple contracts efficiently and effectively,” states Conor. “Since the implementation of our investment plan in 2020, we have increased the number of staff qualified to operate large plant by roughly 25%, which has directly allowed us to resource cold milling and paving schemes in conjunction with other civil engineering works.” It is thanks to its steadfast commitment to environmental policies, and dedication to the development of its team members, that JH Civil Engineering recently gained notable recognition in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025, for which it received the title of Civil Engineering Contractor of the Year 2025 – Lanarkshire. Now, as the future beckons, the organisation is further committed to continuing in its pursuit of engineering excellence. Scotland is globally recognised as the birthplace of whisky. The first record is from 1494 when Friar John Corr used malt to make a spirit he called ‘aqua vitae’, ‘the water of life’. Over the following centuries the Scots crafted the spirit, developing ingenious techniques of distillation and maturation. They perfected and popularised what was to become famously known as Scotch. We find out more about Lerwick Distillery in its quest to create a unique new Scotch from Scotland’s most northerly isles. Best Emerging Whisky Brand 2025 Lerwick Distillery is set to be Shetland’s first, and the World’s Most Northerly Scotch Whisky Distillery. The business was founded in 2022 by Shetlanders, Martin Watt and Calum Miller with a vision to realise a Shetland dram. They are scheduled to go fully operational in 2026, and on a profound journey to crafting Shetland Single Malt Scotch Whisky. At 60º North the location is absolutely unique to the making of Scotch. Shetland is a remote outpost where the North Atlantic Drift rewards with a low temperature differential, an Oceanic sub-Arctic climate, with long mild winters and short cool summers. An average wind speed of 14.7 knots and constant natural ventilation of salty sea air provide the perfect climate for whisky maturation. Rare Paleozoic rock springs and windswept lochs are abundant with the highest quality water in purity and PH level. In terms of ingredients, the Distillery is also exploring the opportunity to utilise homegrown barley sourced from local crofters. Shetland combines a fascinating blend of Nordic and Scots culture. The Vikings settled in 850ad, and to this day the Scandinavian influence is strong. Shetlanders combine earthy Scottish congeniality with a warm Norse character, and speak a poetic dialect rooted in an ancient language called ‘NØRN’ Europe’s largest fire festival, the legendary ‘Up Helly Aa’, takes place every January, with feasting, drinking, a torchlit procession and the burning of a Viking Longship. With many festivals, spectacular scenery and a pristine environment, tourism thrives with around 150,000 visitors and 150 cruise ships every year. The distillery is located at the heart of Lerwick and has already become one of Shetland’s most popular attractions. In 2023, in what was to be pure serendipity, founder Martin Watt met Ian Millar. To describe Ian as a legend in the Whisky Industry is an understatement, having over 50 years with leading Scotch Whisky brands. Since 1998 he’d managed William Grant & Sons three malt distilleries: Glenfiddich, Balvenie and Kininvie, going on to become a global ambassador. In 2023 Ian was at the point of retirement from his esteemed full-time career, overseeing, maintaining and finessing world class whiskies, and only something truly remarkable could freshly inspire him. The vision for Lerwick Distillery was that in barrels. Ultimately Ian’s role is that of custodian of a truly original new Scotch, one that not only embodies Shetland spirit but may also define an entirely new region for Scotch. Consequently Lerwick Distillery combines the Founder’s independent artisan spirit, enriched by Ian’s well of expertise, insight, and wisdom. The perfect balance, the freedom of a clean slate, paired with the reassurance of seasoned hands. Building Lerwick Distillery has involved meticulous planning and attention to detail. Every piece of equipment carefully chosen including two magnificent 4,000 litre stills manufactured to absolute, traditional Scottish standards. The distillery serves two purposes; to make whisky whilst welcoming visitors who will, in turn, become friends and proud advocates of the brand. There is ample room for visitor tours, a fine tasting room and a well-curated whisky and gift shop. For its commitment to creating a truly great and unique product utilising the natural environment which surrounds it, Lerwick Distillery celebrated success in the Scottish Enterprise Awards 2025 and was named Best Emerging Whisky Brand 2025. The future looks very promising for Lerwick Distillery. With a unique location and heritage, and a renowned Master Distiller at the helm they are on a profound journey to craft a premium product that carries the name ‘Shetland’, establishing itself firmly in the global spirits industry.
