UK Enterprise Awards 2026/ 36 Incorporated in 2024, Boland Marine is a young company that’s making waves in the boating industry. Offering a wide range of marine services from leisure boat surveys to design and consultancy, the company also provides production engineering support to boat builders. As a technical authority in his field, Josh has worked on a large portfolio of boats during his career, including the prestigious Pacific 24 and Arctic boats. In his time managing a design team at BAE Systems, Josh also worked on a contract for the UK Armed Forces, maintaining 27 classes of military and commercial vessels. However, missing the leisure boating industry and working closely with personal boat owners, he felt compelled to set up his own business. Today, Boland Marine combines the best of both worlds, working with leisure and commercial clients alike. Josh says: “We serve a wide range of individuals and companies. Private individuals request pre-purchase, insurance and damage surveys on vessels as well as design work to modify or add fabrications to personalise their boats. We also help large companies with design engineering consultancy and production engineering.” Expanding its current business, Boland Marine is launching its boat-building arm, Nyala Boats, to provide rigid inflatable boats (RIBS) and dinghies of various sizes to leisure and commercial clients. Having been brought up on the water and around boats, Josh is passionate about his work. A commercially endorsed coxswain, he has served as a Royal Navy reservist and now owns a 42-foot motor cruiser and a 28-foot sailing yacht. Josh tells us: “We are always looking for ways to provide a better service to our clients, regardless of whether these are private individuals or larger corporations. When providing any service, we always ask ourselves: “Would I be happy if it were my boat?” As a father of three, I’m very mindful of risk. A piece of work is not complete if I wouldn’t be prepared to take my own family out on the boat.” Having worked with some of the biggest and best-known brands in the industry, Josh has held roles from production engineer to naval architect. He has designed everything from superyachts to high-performing defence boats and currently serves in the Maritime Volunteer Service.
