UK Enterprise Awards 2026

UK Enterprise Awards 2026//88 Award for Excellence in Compassionate Care 2026 - West Midlands Orbis Care is an independent domiciliary care provider based in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire. Its team provides compassionate and professional care services that prioritise the wellbeing and dignity of its clients, whilst ensuring that they can remain at home independently. As Orbis Care is named in the UK Enterprise Awards 2026, we heard more from Managing Director Raj Gill. Established in 2021, Orbis Care currently supports more than 70 clients across Henleyin-Arden, Warwickshire, and the surrounding areas., On a mission to help people live independently in their own homes, the company's services include personal care, medication support, companionship, and specialist support for people living with conditions such as dementia. Every day at Orbis Care is guided by a simple goal: to make sure the people it supports can live life on their own terms. It serves a predominantly elderly client base, alongside adults of all ages with care needs. While their circumstances may vary, these clients all share the same preference to remain at home, in familiar surroundings, with support that fits around their life. This service is led by the core values of compassion, empowerment, dignity, responsiveness, and safety. These values inform how the Orbis Care team engages with clients: spending additional time with them during difficult periods, giving them control over what they do with their day, and always speaking to, and about, clients and their families with the utmost respect. Perhaps most important to its home care services is responsiveness, as situations can change quickly. "A client's health can shift, a family's circumstances can change, and the service needs to adapt without the person feeling like they are being managed through a system," Raj explained. "We try to make sure that people can reach us, that concerns are acted on quickly, and that communication with families is consistent." "Most providers talk about putting people first. We've spent five years proving it, in how we train our carers, how we treat our staff, and how we show up for families on the hardest days." Underpinning that approach is a level of rigour not always found in independent providers of this size. Orbis Care holds ISO 9001 Quality Certification, which requires functioning systems for audit, risk management, and continuous improvement. Raj sees the two as connected: structure and compassion are not in tension, they reinforce each other. Unlike the franchise networks that dominate much of the sector, every decision at Orbis Care is made by people who actually deliver the care, not a head office several counties away. Ultimately, Orbis Care aims to become the provider that families can trust and that carers want to work for. The care sector moves slowly by nature but is under rapidly changing pressures, with staff retention, digital records, regulatory scrutiny, and rising client complexity all intensifying. Orbis Care stays ahead of such challenges by treating quality improvement as continuous rather than reactive, building systems that catch problems before an inspection ever could. That is harder to do at scale, and Raj believes it is one reason families increasingly look past the larger, branded names. "A franchise can give you a recognisable sign above the door," she said. "It can't give you a carer who already knows how someone takes their tea, or a manager who actually answers the phone." Looking to the future, Orbis Care will pursue sustainable growth whilst building on the quality and consistency of its service. The company is investing in technology to improve how it manages care planning, auditing, and communication with families. With this, it aims to provide clients, and the people close to them with more visibility and confidence in the care being delivered. "Better information means better decisions," said Raj, "and it also builds the kind of trust that leads to long-term relationships." For its exceptional work, Orbis Care has been recognised with the Award for Excellence in Compassionate Care 2026 for the West Midlands. "Winning this award means a great deal to us, not because of the recognition itself but because of what it represents," shared Raj. "Orbis Care was built on the belief that high-quality care and a well-supported workforce are not competing priorities. This award is a reflection of the people who deliver that care every day, and we are very proud of them." She continued, "It is also a reminder of why we started. The social care sector does not often get the credit it deserves. The work is demanding, the pay does not reflect that, and the public profile of the sector rarely captures the skill and dedication involved. Awards like this one matter because they shine a light on what good looks like, and that benefits the sector as a whole, not just the individual organisations being recognised." "We hope that being visible in this way encourages other small, independent providers to invest in quality and professionalism, and encourages families to know that excellent care exists, and they should expect nothing less."
