New legal subscription and employment bundle aim to close the access gap for smaller businesses
Sumer Law, part of the UK’s leading mid-market accountancy firm for SMEs, Sumer, has announced the launch of two new legal services: the Legal Partner Subscription and the Employment Law Bundle.
Developed in direct response to the needs of growing businesses, the services are designed to solve a longstanding challenge in the SME market: access to dependable, expert legal support. Many of these businesses fall short on the in-house legal resources of larger firms and are often priced out of traditional advisory models. A recent YouGov survey found that 34% of small businesses face legal issues on a monthly basis, and 23% annually – highlighting just how routine these challenges have become. Sumer Law’s new offerings provide an affordable, structured solution, tailored specifically to the pace, complexity, and pressures faced by modern SMEs.
“SMEs are held to the same legal and regulatory standards as larger corporates, but often without the resources to match,” said James Kearns, Head of Legal Services at Sumer Law. “Our mission is to break down the barriers that prevent growing businesses from accessing expert legal support—whether that’s cost, complexity, or capacity. We’re closing that gap, giving ambitious SMEs the confidence, continuity, and clarity they need to scale, without the compromise.”
The Legal Partner Subscription gives SMEs access to experienced legal professionals on a rolling basis, without the need for a full-time hire. It’s a cost-effective and flexible solution, created for businesses that need consistent support, but not the overheads of a Chief Legal Officer. This service provides on-demand legal advice, contract reviews, regulatory guidance, and strategic support.
Meanwhile, the Employment Law Bundle is a one-off package aimed at simplifying compliance for employers. It includes professionally drafted templates – such as employment contracts, offer letters, and staff handbooks – alongside direct consultation with employment solicitors to guide businesses through using their documentation.
Since launching in June 2024, Sumer Law has rapidly expanded its national team from two to eight legal professionals – a 300% increase – welcoming a range of experienced solicitors with specialist knowledge across M&A, shareholder agreements, equity investments, EMI schemes, employment compliance, and broader commercial law. The team operates as part of the wider Sumer group, ensuring legal and financial advice are seamlessly integrated.
Recognised as the 13th largest accountancy firm by Accountancy Daily’s Top 75, Sumer has rapidly scaled operations, achieving a remarkable 605% growth in total fee income since 2023.
Sumer brings together the value and knowledge of leading regional practices with the technology, scale, and breadth of expertise that only a national organisation can achieve.
