Caring for Scotland

In less than a decade, Cadham Pharmacy Health Centre has established itself as pillar of the community of Glenrothes, Fife, providing award-winning, comprehensive health and pharmaceutical services with friendly, compassionate patient service. Going above and beyond the duties of a traditional pharmacy, Cadham offers certified services in everything from minor ailments triage to vaccinations to world-class asthma care. As the pharmacy adds its recognition as the Most Trusted Pharmacy 2020 in East-Central Scotland to its roster of accolades, we take a closer look at the factors behind Cadham’s success so far.

As one of only six pharmacies across the entirety of the UK to have been rated as an EXCELLENT PHARMACY by the General Pharmaceutical Society Inspector (GPhC), Cadham Pharmacy Health Centre is well-established in Scotland and beyond. However, despite its nationwide reputation for clinical excellence, it is its position at the centre of the community of Glenrothes, Fife, as a compassionate, one-stop centre for healthcare and wellbeing services for the whole family that has earnt its acclaim as a premier health centre of Scotland.

For almost a decade, the family-run business provided traditional, patient-focused service to customers across Fife, providing a broad spectrum of advanced clinical services that far exceed the offerings of a typical pharmacy. For instance, with its NHS Service Level Agreement with all GPs and Practices across Glenrothes, Leslie, Markinch and Thornton, Cadham is also an Advanced Minor Ailments Triage Clinic, enabling patients to access treatments from the qualified healthcare team at the pharmacy without having to book an appointment with the GP.

Not only does this save on waiting times and allow patients to quickly access qualified healthcare at times convenient to them, including the weekends, the service also alleviates the pressures on GPs and A&E departments, which no longer need to spend time dealing with common clinical conditions. Such conditions include chest or ear infections, sinusitis, cellulitis, and flare ups of asthma, COPD, eczema and psoriasis. If necessary, the team at Cadham can then refer patients to the GP, reassuring them that they are receiving the right treatments for them.

The triage clinic is just one of the many services provided by Cadham in its care for the people of Fife. Indeed, there is not much that this award-winning clinic can’t advise on or treat. From scanning moles to the free NHS Gluten-free Food Service, to ear wax removal and the 12-week Stop Smoking Clinic, all the way to a digital dentist service, the capacities of Cadham are endless.

The Cadham Travel Clinic provides all essential travel healthcare services, including administering vaccines and anti-malarial medicines, as well as up-to-date guidance on global travel health advice. Meanwhile, Cadham’s award-winning Pain Clinic serves those suffering chronic pain and sports injuries, as well as those recovering from surgery and looking to get back to full mobility faster. Cadham offers a free ten-minute treatment and access to the breakthrough bioelectrical medical and treatment therapy of NuroKor’s range of Ultrawearable Devices, which can offer effective pain relief for joints, sprains, and bruising, as well as aiding physical performance and reducing inflammation by improving circulation.

However, it is Cadham’s multi-award-winning Asthma Clinic that truly puts the pharmacy on the map. Driven by a mission to save lives in asthma by giving the ‘Gift of Breath’ to its community, the Cadham team works with all generations and all levels of health to provide support to those afflicted with the respiratory condition. As the only pharmacy health centre using the Asthma Single Breath FeNo Test, Cadham is able to see how inflamed patients’ lungs are, and therefore make relevant, well-informed decisions about the best way to control the asthma through preventer inhalers and medicines. Through consistent monitoring and treatment, patients are able to take their life back, enjoying a healthy and active lifestyle that is not limited by asthma.

In the past year, the pharmacy’s vast selection of services has extended even further to encompass testing and care for the Covid-19 pandemic. Partnering with Connect2pharma and Randox Testing has enabled Cadham to offer a Covid-19 Antigen Rapid Same Day Testing Service, Covid-19 PCR Testing for reliable results in less than 48 hours, and Same-Day Fit to Fly Certificates with embedded QR codes that confirms individuals have a negative PCR swab test result and are safe to fly into different countries.

The seamless integration of these vital services in the midst of the global health crisis is testament to the efficient and effective approach to healthcare championed by Cadham. However, Cadham had proven its innovative mentality prior to the pandemic, constantly evolving and introducing new services and state-of-the-art technology designed to make life easier for its community. From advanced medical equipment to the Healthera app for ordering prescriptions, to the ‘Cadham Robots’ – the 24-hour dispensary service that is ‘managed’ by Connie, Robbie, and Cadham, the friendly robots on the team – Cadham is committed to growing and developing in order to enhance the patient and customer experience for its community.

At its heart, however, Cadham remains consistent in its purpose; to care for the people of Glenrothes and beyond by offering excellent pharmaceutical and health care. Alongside its many advanced health services and technological offerings, the centre continues to deliver all the qualities of a traditional pharmacy, from flu jabs and over-the-counter medicines to repeat prescriptions and, above all else, genuine friendly care. The success of Cadham lies in its ability to move forward whilst simultaneously retaining the family values that have made it such a beloved pillar of its community, as one client attests:

“From ordering repeat prescriptions to collecting out of hours from the robots, it has never been easier. The service provided by Berni and her team is first class.”

Cadham is therefore able to add the well-deserved title of SME’s Most Trusted Pharmacy 2020 to its bountiful roster of prior awards and accolades. As the pharmacy nears a decade of operation, there is no doubt that continued success lies ahead for the whole team. We look forward to witnessing and celebrating all those successes that are still to come with Cadham Pharmacy.
