Welsh Enterprise Awards 2026

Welsh Enterprise Awards 2026/ 16 Best International Decontamination Services & Development Provider 2026 Spread across 11 licensed facilities worldwide, one of which is in the small Welsh town of Crumlin, UniTech Services Group Ltd was historically a provider of radiological laundry decontamination and conventional laundry services to the nuclear industry, but has recently expanded its operation to include the likes of the military and various engineering industries. This allows it to better serve its customer’s needs, a dedication which has resulted in its recognition in the Welsh Enterprise Awards 2026. Paul Chesters MBE, business unit manager at UniTech, was on hand for more. A one-of-a-kind business in the UK, UniTech Services Group Ltd offers nuclear and other such decontamination laundry services to research, military, and the commercial nuclear sectors. Its provisions are made possible through its highly trained staff and specialist equipment, in addition to tools like RFID tracking technologies. In Wales specifically, these have resulted in a fleet that supports clients such as the old Wylfa nuclear power station, as well as TrawsCymru, the latter reflecting a drive to branch out beyond nuclear. From its base in South Wales, UniTech provides all of these clients with innovative personal protection garment design and manufacturing, as well as handling direct sales of personal protective equipment (PPE), short- and long-term garment lease programmes, and respirator service/lease options. More recent additions have seen it introduce an automatic replacement programme, whereby it replaces PPE identified as damaged during quality inspections with completely new items, keeping costs down and safety levels high. Paul added: “We are also set apart through our ability to service and supply any type of RPE/PPE, which we can also collect and deliver using our internal Class 7 ADR qualified drivers.” He continued: “We also offer services across industries and cover both the lease and sale of all RPE/PPE and RFID systems”, again adding to its value. Another initiative has seen UniTech install automated scaffolding tube and board radiological monitoring equipment at its home in South Wales, with this providing its customers with rapid offsite monitoring capabilities compliant with the UK’s radiological clearance requirements. However, this is not the only development shaping the company’s future, as UniTech has also started to work in a new area that allows it to serve both its nuclear and non-nuclear customers alike, thanks to the hugely beneficial AGC Pulse system. Paul told us that the AGC Pulse is a system designed to carry out the reliable, controlled distribution of PPE, loan items (workwear), or consumable items (like gloves), in a variety of business settings. Its uses include laundry, hospitals, hospitality, pharma, and municipal authority sectors. With this system to boot, UniTech combines different modules and products that distribute items in an optimal, cost-effective way, underpinned by a powerful analytical software package offering it a variety of service benefits. These benefits include full inventory control, significant cost reductions, huge space savings, 24/7 unmanned issue and return, stock reduction, accurate item lifecycle analysis, active stock alerts, RFID garment tracking for laundry/redistribution, compliance with regulatory obligations, seamless compatibility with stock ordering systems, and even the ability to monitor multiple geographical locations through the one dashboard. Whilst technology like AGC Pulse is vital in the decontamination laundry services UniTech provides, the company’s main differentiator remains its team, a loyal and a highly motivated group who benefit massively from the friendly and open culture that has been created. This culture has proven imperative in bringing new ideas and fresh perspectives to the business, and is continuing to position it for further growth as we move through the 2026 and beyond. Supporting this is a local government keen to develop nuclear. On the back of this, Paul told us: “Our longterm goals are to service the new-build nuclear stations at Hinkley Point C, which we are a long way down the line of finalising, and in the future Sizewell C. We are also continuing to make inroads with non-nuclear customers, supporting them with our available services and products.” Named the Best International Decontamination Services & Development Provider 2026 here in the Welsh Enterprise Awards, UniTech Services Group Ltd brings something truly unique to South Wales and indeed the wider UK through its decontamination laundry services and PPE/ RPE servicing and cleaning.
