Europe’s fastest-growing sport, padel is a racquet game that brings together elements of squash and tennis. It is played on a court similar to that found in tennis, but it is enclosed by walls to keep the ball in play and allow for exciting rebound shots. Easy to learn and suitable for all ages, padel’s popularity can be seen throughout the UK, and nowhere is it more prolific than at the 13 courts operated by the team behind Swansea’s JAXX Padel. At JAXX Padel, every detail is crafted to elevate the padel experience. Whether they are a complete beginner, a competitive player, or somewhere in between, everyone can benefit from the services offered here, which span court hire and coaching sessions through to leagues, tournaments, corporate events, and community activities. Through its padel courts in Swansea, JAXX aims to grow padel across Wales, building a strong community around the sport and making it accessible, enjoyable, and welcoming. Behind the excellent facilities and memorable customer experiences JAXX offers are its unchanged core values: community, inclusivity, development, quality, enjoyment, and innovation. Whilst these values have remained consistent, one thing that has not is the ambitions Karl and the team have for the venue. In the early days, it was all about getting more people to play padel and create a successful venue. Today, it is looking to take things much further by becoming one of the best facilities for padel players in the UK. For Karl, Welsh padel is entering an important stage in its development. As new venues and courts open, the coaching workforce expands, and clearer development and competition pathways are introduced, the demand for the sport is skyrocketing. More people want to try their hand at it, and regardless of if they pursue it competitively or simply introduce it into their weekly exercise regime, it is a positive step for padel. In Swansea and South Wales specifically, JAXX deserves a lot of the credit for making padel more accessible, as before its state-of-the-art facility existed there were limited opportunities for people to experience the sport. By introducing indoor and outdoor padel courts to the community, JAXX has not only made padel a regular part of people’s lives, it has also created lasting partnerships with the region’s schools, universities, and businesses. “We are not simply operating a padel venue; we are helping to shape how the sport grows in Wales and creating opportunities for future Welsh players, coaches, and competitors.” Outside of its padel courts and coaching provision, people come to JAXX because of facilities like its aforementioned café and members’ lounge, not to mention the staff operating every avenue of this modern and diverse venue. Whilst JAXX is a large and often very busy place, the team here still strive to offer the personal and welcoming atmosphere of a community club. This keeps people coming back, and is one of the reasons why more than 14,000 people have played padel at the venue since its doors opened last December. In closing, Karl himself told us: “JAXX is more than a collection of padel courts. It is a social and community venue where complete beginners can play alongside experienced competitors, businesses can bring their teams together, and people can form new friendships through sport.” Although the impact of JAXX Padel is only just beginning to be felt, the seeds it is planting by introducing new players to the game, developing coaching pathways, supporting competitive opportunities, and working closely with schools, universities, businesses, and community organisations are sure to blossom into something special over the coming years. We are excited to check back in with Karl further down the line to explore how this location, already named the Best Indoor & Outdoor Sports Facility 2026, has evolved further.
